This Halloween feels empty without yelling "Go To Hell"

7 times LSU and Ole Miss have played on Halloween, most recently in 1998.
Between 1945 and 1994, with rare exception, the game was almost always played within a few days of Halloween. Since 1994, that has been the case only 3 times. In 2013 and 2014 the game was at least back on the right side of October. And it will be next year.
But it's still annoying that this year's game is practically an hors d'ouerve for Thanksgiving dinner when there's a perfectly good Halloween evening going to waste. Ole Miss is playing the wrong Tigers tomorrow.
But maybe it's for the best.
Nobody remembers that after Bama stole Hotty Toddy and 21-0 from Ole Miss. All they remember are these two moments in Ole Miss history:
I guess we'll just have to wait until late November in Oxford to see Swag Kelly watch Rebel dreams of a SEC title die. That 50 year tradition is alive and well.
Since y'all aren't flying the state flag anymore on campus, might I suggest this historically accurate replacement?

You can blame the SEC for giving LSU an off week before the Alabama game.

My father was at the game in Baton Rouge on Halloween night when Billy Cannon ran the punt back.

Apparently Cannon's biography just came out earlier this fall. Guilbeau had a great article about it earlier today.

Roguishly handsome with a James Dean wave of hair and a surname straight out of central casting, Cannon had a cinematic flair on the gridiron. His “Heisman Moment” came on a muggy, haunting Halloween Night in Tiger Stadium in '59 when No. 1 LSU hosted No. 3 Ole Miss in one of the first “Game of the Century” episodes. Though the game was not televised, replays of the "Halloween Run" have still not stopped and continued for decades on Halloween night television sportscasts throughout Louisiana.
With about 10 minutes to play, Cannon rebelliously grabbed a bouncing punt on a muddy field at his 11-yard line, ignoring Coach Paul Dietzel’s rule prohibiting such devilish deeds inside the 15. He proceeded to break the tackles of five seemingly ghostly Rebels on his way to an 89-yard touchdown and 7-3 victory for the defending national champion Tigers, who stood 7-0 on the season with their 19th straight victory. And Cannon and Tiger Stadium have basically been the “Legend of Sleepy Hollow” ever since.
(lots of blabber about alleged criminal activities)
quote:
“I’m going back to New York one more time, and that’s when Leonard wins the Heisman Trophy,” Cannon said.
Fournette met Cannon at LSU’s spring game in April. “He told me to keep doing great things, keep pushing,” Fournette said this week.
That would be something.
Hopefully Leonard never needs Dr. Cannon's dental services at Angola.

Does Bama have a Grove too?

I really hate that we don't play on Halloween week anymore. That was a staple of the season and has so much history involved in it. Now, for whatever fricking reason, we play Auburn the last weekend in October. I'd like for us to bring that back and I'm sure a lot of people on both sides agree with that. Does LSU have a permanent last week in October team now like we do?

I feel a little better now.

I agree. If SEC was going to keep Egg Bowl and Iron Bowl intact, they should have kept OM-LSU on weekend closest to Halloween. It was a great tradition

I not once was able to trick or treat with my friends growing up because my parents had me "at a stupid football game". We did randomly drive to a neighborhood in Jackson one time and they let me go ring two doorbells for candy before we had to rush back to the stadium for the game to start. Easter was spent at church and hunting Easter eggs, Christmas was visiting family and opening presents, and Halloween was playing LSU. I miss it.

Negative. Permanent bye week is more like it.
Our "permanent" games as far as time of year appear to be as follows:
Bama - Since 1964 the game has almost always been in the first half of November
Florida - Staring in 1973 the game has almost always been in the first half of October
Arkansas - Always the later half of November
A&M - Thanksgiving weekend for the time being
Auburn and State move around our schedule a lot.
I have to think Ole Miss and LSU just haven't lobbied the SEC to make it happen otherwise it would happen.
I get that LSU wants the open date before the Bama game but it would be nice if we could least have the game in the second half of October *every year*. If not Halloween, at least the right side of October. Next year is fine (we play Ole Miss on October 22) but who knows when they'll schedule it in 2017 and beyond.

2016 's game is towards the end of October I believe. We have been pushing to move it back to weekend before Halloween

I would like to see our AD's speak up about it and rectify the situation. It's just not natural.
