Not me. I do like the idea of an older guy with some college playing experience coming in to compete for the job though. Also like that FSU's offense is similar enough to Alabama that the learning curve wouldn't be too bad. I like Coker's size, arm strength, and pocket presence from what I have seen on film of him playing. He didn't look that accurate though.

This really is more of a testament to the lack of confidence the coaching staff has in the current options on Bama's roster, but if they feel that way I'm glad they are pursuing this option.

So basically I like the idea of Coker coming in, but I'm not assuming he is going to be a great QB based on his limited playing time.

I really hope Alabama signs Ricky Town because I think he could be one of the most talented QBs Alabama has signed in a long time. But obviously he isn't the answer for 2014 and probably not 2015 either.

He doesn't even need to be as good as McCarron. All we need for him to be is slightly better than McElroy and we will be in good shape.

That's cute that you put stock into coach speak.

Hell Kiffin was competitive in the SEC with Jonathan Crompton.

If all of that is true about Coker then how the frick didn't he beat out Jameis? That's crazy.

Jimbo was scared about losing the team if he didn't choose JW, he was by all accounts the more charismatic and made lots of friends and had he not been named starter it would've divided the team

I think we all do to a certain extent.

I'm sure Gus pumped some sunshine about "never working harder to get back to the championship" or something along those lines that the Family swallowed up like a mama Largemouth guarding eggs.

It is the nature of fanhood.

How would you possibly know this? No offense, but this sounds like pure unsubstantiated rumor.

Coker likely was as competitive as Pothead Sims was in 2011. Same sabanesque coach speak from Jimbo. Still a better combo of talent/experience than anyone on roster.

Pretty much this.

I'm not even sold that he can come in and win the starting job in that short of a time frame, even if the QB's that we already have AREN'T great.

But, it will be good to have him as an option.

I haven't heard one Bama fan talk about being excited to see Sims start next year.

That's because Sims won't be the starter next year, Coker or no Coker.

Me personally, I don't buy that Fall camp battle stuff that Fisher is pumping. Jameis was tearing up the 1st team D during his Freshman yr on the scout team. Fisher said off record that Jameis could have played last year and would have been fine. I think Coker is good, but I have my doubts about him being as good as they say he is.

I said this at some point during the season and was told by a couple that he would be because that is Saban's process. Sims wouldn't have gotten in some of the games if he wasn't the next starting QB. Of course I chuckled...

I know you guys all laugh when Finebaum's name is mentioned but he has been harping on the fact that Bama is in trouble at the QB position next year. He either knows something or is just talking to talk. I just know everytime someone brings up the fact that Bama won Nattys with a first year starter he laughs and says what does that have to do with next year.

Sims can't hit the broad side of a barn though. Very good athlete for the QB position but a worse arm than Nick Marshall.

I tried to tell some of them too. But, those types generally won't listen. Sims is the backup because he's done what was asked of him. But, he'll always be a backup.

That's because it's BS, just like the people claiming the Cam/Trotter battle was actually a battle.

It's really baffling to me that people put any stock at all into what college coaches say publicly about players.

He is pretty much right, but it is Finebaum and he needs to stir the pot for his show.
