Elite as in having AP top 5 team pretty much year in year out. There are only 5 coaches. Welcome to the SEC coach Kelly.

Has not won anything of significance for the entirety of his coaching career.

There may be a guy in SC that disagrees with this list.

So Tennessee's strategy is to fire a man who followed a Kelly from job to job before they hired him and replace him with a Kelly, but not the same Kelly who made Jones look so attractive to them the first time around?
That's a bold strategy Cotton.

Orange Bowl and the NFC bro.

Does anybody get more credit for not having actually won anything than Harbaugh?
I mean aside from creepy sleepovers with recruits?

Kelly will never go back to college football.

TCU has built statues of Patterson on campus, so yeah there is one guy.

Is there a level above elite where Dabo sits?

Only takes a run of the mill coach to beat the vols 41-0 in Neyland.
Agreed.
Agreed.

You go Phil.
Carry the fight to tRant, and keep it there for 365 days.

As inexplicable as his rise has been, yes, Dabo is absolutely elite.

There are a ton of X and O reasons not to want Kelly, but the fact that he caught a show cause is also huge. This isn't like Pearl to Auburn B-ball. Can't imagine a historic program taking a shot on such a risk both on the field and off.

I don't think that is true but if he does I think it will be back on the west coast and not the SEC.

And like it or not, Dabo Swinney is an elite head coach. He has had six straight 10-win seasons, two straight national championship game appearances, and is the head coach of the defending national champions. He built that program. It's his. I'm sure you just forgot him when you were compiling this list.

Patterson has won six conference titles. What has Harbaugh done in college that matches up to Patterson's accomplishments at TCU?

There are only 4 active head coaches in College Football with a national title to their names:
Saban
Meyer
Jimbo
Dabo
Those are your elite coaches and everyone else is trying to climb the mountain
