It's not like him to go out this way. Could there be more to it? Health issues? Family problems?
Umm, this is exactly what he does.
As soon as he started getting criticized at Florida, he walked.
As soon as he knew he wouldn't succeed in Washington, he quit.
He went to South Carolina because he knew he would be worshiped there, and he could still play Georgia and Tennessee. He already thought about quitting after last season's debacle. All of us who understand anything about college football knew South Carolina might have 4 wins this year with their schedule. This reality has finally settled in with Spurrier and enough of the media have finally pissed him off enough to just flat out bail on his team.
I think Spurrier is a great coach and legend, but he is such a fricking coward. He is leaving South Carolina in an absolute dumpster fire.

You cock fans just sound scared for your program's future. I would too, just like I was when Muschamp was here.
Good luck to you all. I just hope Spurrier doesn't have a health problem or family problem: my primary concern in this thread that you all failed to address.

Bruh spurrier played for your school and won your school titles and a championships and made it more relevant than ours. This is the pot calling the kettle

Oh go frick yourself. You got exactly the type of responses you expected to, unless you're a complete dumbass.

When Spurrier gets ready to leave he does not piddle around. That is his track record. That is the way it should be.

As already posted in this thread ... the more you post, the more you prove what a fricktard you are ForeverGator. Just hush and move on to something else. You don't even remotely have a feel for what we are feeling or what is going-on around here right now. You're just looking dumber by the minute.

He didn't leave Florida mid-season..... In fact he left after arguably coaching one of the best gator teams ever.... Terrible logic man. I can understand your disdain for him since you're a uga fan but my god.

Les went out of his way to hold onto him and get the message out.

Maybe Spurrier is going from USCe to USCw?
Not serious. Just hoping nothing is seriously wrong with him.

Not really. USCe season is pretty much down the drain, and he can give the administration max time to find a suitable replacement. Also, he can give himself instant retirement/rest.

I could see the losing the desire.... But still seems odd to do mid season. It's almost like why did he even bother this season?
Pride. Not wanting to let go of something his life has revolved around. To prove to himself and his critics he still has it.
Lots of reasons.

if you were paying attention - Gamecock fans were concerned about our "future" when the 2-3 year comment came out last December from the HBC resulting in a media frenzy and negative recruiting against USC. Spurrier actually fast-tracked Carolina football to a better future - sooner - by retiring tonight.
happy for him and happy for Gamecock football.

Huh?
I never said he left midseason. He left because he started taking heat from the media and the fans that year.
I don't hate Steve Spurrier at all, I just think this is a coward move.

I think the AD called him in to say they were going in ac different direction at the end of the season. Steven got pissed and said,"frick it. Let's do it right now. Call the press."

With the timing, he may be trying to rally the troops.

Hate to see him go but it's been clear his fire and passion for the game has been gone for a while.
It's almostlike he has continued coaching as a hobby. Just something to occupy his time.
I don't watch many SC games, but I haven't seen thbc even throw his visor in a few years now.

I don't think he was doing it to occupy his time. He wanted to retire last year (and the rumor got out along the recruiting trails) but SC wasn't seriously looking for a legit replacement. He stayed out of loyalty to give SC time to find the right HC.
And this way (retiring midseason) is better for recruiting bc they will have a new HC in place come bowl season and won't be falling behind on recruiting when Spurrier were to announce his retirement at seasons end.
It's the best way for their situation. Now let's see who they pitch and will any legit coaches take that job?
I say they aren't a coveted destination for one of the big up and comers so their best bet would be to take Dabo's OC who already has relationships inside South Carolina high schools.

Seems like they want a guy who can establish a recruiting class and try to revitalize the team for the rest of the season.
