From founder of Rivals and 247sports Shannon Terry:

Saban told Lance Thompson to explore his other options.

Is he Don Corleone?

Are people really fighting over the semantics of Lance Thompson leaving once SEC school for another?

Christ, he's done this like 11 times already. He's coached at half the schools in the league, some of them 3 times.

He's not a Bama fan. He's explained that a ton before. He's adamant about that.

He might be the CEO of 247 sports, but he is also still an Alabama fan and homer. Maybe what he says is true, but I am sure he wrote that in part to calm the bammer melt about their best recruiter leaving for exactly the same position at Auburn

Plausible until getting Saban's blessing on where he went after essentially getting canned. That sounds like a load of horseshite.

I'd probably trust the guy who's a multi-millionaire and has more connections in this business than anyone else in his industry.

This is almost 100% correct. It left out the part where Lance asked "Kirby, why am I out?" And Kirby responded "You're not a wartime consigliari, Lance."

Then Saban offered him a greyshirt, and said he could sit out the Fall and come back to coach next Spring. Apparently Lance didn't take it.

Sounds like the SID had to work overtime to get the talking points out for the "Multiple sources".
