Agreed. Southern Cal is RBU. In the Saban era, nobody can touch Bama. That's good enough for me.
Posted on 2/24/16 at 6:46 am to DannyB
3 of those you listed were actually good.

If you try and claim Brandon Jacobs and Michael Dyer then Florida gets to claim Cam.

It's obvious that Alabama's RBU designation has really crawled deep up in your arse...what a waste of time.

Has ESPN announced when they are airing the pre-season awards show?

Bama isn't even close to being RBU.

oh and we have 2 Heisman winning RBs, you have just 1.

You should have listed Tre Smith as well. He didn't have an illustrious pro career, but he was a damn good college rb on some very talented Auburn teams.

Jacob Hester was similar. Hard nosed runner who played his best in the biggest moments. I feel he's overlooked due to the talent on the LSU teams he played on. I can still remember watching his game against Florida as a kid.

I was a student at LSU when Auburn had Cadillac, Ronnie, Jacobs and Smith. They all could tote the rock. Per the norm, I hated Auburn with a passion because y'all were our toughest division rival and Tuberville was a world class prick. Bama was swallowing loads then, so essentially the West was an Auburn/LSU race, with Arky throwing their hat in the ring, too.
Smith was really hard nosed (in a lunch pail, high motor, coach on the field kind of way) and when he squared up the pads, he could deliver a hit, hold on to the ball and find the first down marker. Very similar attributes to Hester, but Hester was just a tad stronger with an even higher motor. Smith was a very good special teams player as well, just an all-around good football player. He just gets lost in the shuffle because Auburn had 3 NFL backs ahead of him, but he would have been a feature back at a lot of other schools.

1977-1980 James Brooks
AU: 621 attempts, 3523 yds, 5.7 ypc, 24 TD’s.
1980 All-SEC First Team
I was freshman in high school when Brooks was a senior. Best high school back the I've ever personally watched play ball. He could've broken numerous high school records had he gotten many carries and not shared the backfield with another SEC RB (James Womack, UGA). He had a couple games where he'd rush once or twice for 75 or 90 yards and a TD and then he'd sit out the rest of the game. Several other games where he'd have less than 10 carries and have 150 to 200 yards...dude could flat out run. Think he'd have put up awesome numbers at AU if he hadn't been behind Cribbs for a couple of years...
True, albeit secondhand, story: the year before Brooks was starting RB at WRHS, we got beat something like 27-0 by Columbus; their coach called time out at the end of the game to run up the score. Next year, we were up 49-6 over that same Columbus team and the seniors called timeout right before our last play. They went over to the coach and he said something like, "Payback time...we'll try a long pass." The seniors said, "No coach, we want to toss sweep it to James..." and the coach said OK. They pitched it to Brooks and he ran untouched 50+ yards for a TD...
