Why Tennessee matchup offers reminder of how much life has changed for Alabama WR Gehrig Dieter.

It was the defining performance of Gehrig Dieter's college career, and it came during a 29-point loss. Exactly 403 days have passed since Dieter produced seven catches for 133 yards and a touchdown for Bowling Green against Tennessee in a 59-30 defeat.

During that time span, so much has changed for the wide receiver. He's playing for a new program after moving to Alabama as a graduate transfer in February. And he's no longer the point person in his team's offense as he was last year with the Falcons, when he led Bowling Green with 94 receptions and accumulated more than a 1,000 yards from scrimmage.

Good. Maybe he won't drop so many passes.

How the hell he had that many catches at BG is a mystery. They must have thrown to him 70x per game.

He did manage to hold on to one last week.

Granted some of the passes thrown to him haven't been the greatest, but he's had some drops that should have been easy catches.

He is a good blocker for a wide receiver. To be honest, I'd thought he would be buried in Bama's depth chart when he transfered, but he has played a lot.

Dieter hasn't been much of a factor for Alabama this year. He has been a pretty big drop off from Slotty Pippen Mullaney. Maybe he will breakout vs Tennessee.

What do you expect when he goes from a slow white boy conference like the MAC to the SEC?

I keep seeing this sentiment, but I think it's bullshite. I only remember him dropping one, maybe two passes, and neither of them were very well thrown.

With Adarius Stewart back I don't see Deiter making a difference.

Agreed with Teague. We don't have a great passing QB, yet. lots of crappy thrown balls or Hurts doesn't pull the trigger up field enough.

Hurts also sucks when pressured. That part of his game hasn't developed yet.

Only had 8 receptions this year. Was hoping he would be more of a factor, but kind of hard to get every receiver the ball and having a TF still developing.

He's done a great job blocking though.

I wonder how he'll feel being 0-2 in about 3 days

I like the guy but this is just wrong. Against WKU, he dropped a sure TD where Hurts hit him in stride with not a soul from WKU in the area. I'm not going back and find the games, but he's also dropped a couple crossing routes where the ball was right on the money. Among the WRs that get meaningful targets, he probably has more drops than the rest combined.

He had a better throwing to him at Bowling Green than he does now. Not a flame... their QB last year was legit.

His drop rate at BG was actually insanely low. Not sure why he has problems here... perhaps Hurts throws a lot harder than BG's QB?

OJ Howard dropped a sure TD in the exact same game. Drops happen. Julio probably set a school record for drops. I don't remember these crossing routes you're discussing.

I've noticed that a lot of Alabama fans watching games at bars around here assume that he is any white person who gets the ball thrown his way

Germans.

Wide receivers should never be Germans.

I don't know if he throws harder, but his throws are off target. The receivers have to stop or adjust to even get their hands on the ball most of the time.

I'll bet, on passes more than 10 yards downfield, our YAC numbers are terrible.
