Today we'll examine SEC backfields that produced multiple first round draft picks and judge whether they were overrated, essentially offensive system products, by their NFL performances.
The four pairings we will examine are as follows:
1. Bo Jackson and Brent Fullwood
2. Cadillac Williams and Ronnie Brown
3. Darren McFadden and Felix Jones
4. Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson
Bo Jackson (1st overall in 1986) Brent Fullwood (4th overall in 1987)
Bo Jackson rushed for 2,782 yards and had 16 rushing touchdowns. He caught 40 passes for 352 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Brent Fullwood rushed for 1,702 yards and 18 touchdowns. He had 44 catches for 370 yards and 1 TD.
They combined for 4,484 rushing yards, 34 rushing TDs, 84 receptions, 722 receiving yards and 3 receiving TDs.
Ronnie Brown (2nd overall in 2005) and Cadillac Williams (5th overall in 2005)
Ronnie Brown rushed for 5,391 yards and 38 TDs. He had 246 receptions for 1,966 yards and 2 TDs.
Cadillac Williams rushed for 4,038 yards and 21 TDs. He had 148 receptions for 1,002 yards and 4 TDs.
The combined for 9,427 yards and 59 TDs rushing and had 394 receptions for 2,968 yards and 6 TDs.
Darren McFadden (4th overall in 2008) Felix Jones (22nd overall in 2008) Darren McFadden is still active.
Darren McFadden has rushed for 5,336 yards and 28 TDs. He has 251 receptions for 2,097 yards and 5 TDs.
Felix Jones rushed for 2,912 yards and 11 TDs. He has 137 receptions for 1,129 yards and 3 TDs.
Combined they have rushed for 8,248 yards and 39 TDs. They have 388 receptions for 3,226 yards and 8 TDs.
Mark Ingram (28th overall in 2011) Trent Richardson (3rd overall in 2012) Both are currently active.
Mark Ingram has rushed for 3,195 yards and 26 TDs. He has 103 receptions for 693 yards.
Trent Richardson has rushed for 2,032 yards and 17 TDs. He has 113 receptions for 912 yards and 2 TDs.
They have combined for 5,227 rushing yards and 43 TDs. They have 216 receptions for 1,605 yards and 2 TDs.
1. Ronnie Brown and Cadillac Williams combined for 12,395 yards from scrimmage and 65 TDs.
2. Darren McFadden and Felix Jones combined for 11,474 yards from scrimmage and 47 TDs.
3. Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson combined for 6,832 yards from scrimmage and 45 TDs.
4. Bo Jackson and Brent Fullwood combined for 5,206 yards from scrimmage and 37 TDs.
It is worth noting that Trent Richardson has a chance to pass Bo Jackson in career NFL rushing and that the McFadden Jones combo has a chance to pass Brown/Jones for tops in the backfield yards from scrimmage.
I think from this information we can unequivocally state that the 1985 Auburn Backfield was the most overrated backfield in history and the production of the two backs was based more on the system than their actual talent.

Bo's injury curbed a very promising career though

How is it a troll when Auburn clearly has the highest producing backfield on the list?

Yeah Bo Jackson was def just a system back, his NFL stats prove that. He wasn't talented. His injury is irrelevant

This is retarded. You should probably drink bleach.

Why does anyone give a frick what they did/do in the pros? They were dominant on their teams in college and nothing they done in the pros takes away from that.

Damn you're reaching to start this thread.

Killean has a hard on for calling Bo Jackson a bust.
He does it constantly, even though it's obvious Bo Jackson's injury is what ended his career. He was never just "not good enough" at any point. That, and the fact that he played football as a hobby during baseball's offseason.

Charles Scott and Keiland Williams

Charles Scott was in a car accident after being drafted and was sent to the ICU. I wouldn't call him overrated by any means.

While this might be true, we will never know exactly how great Bo Jackson could have been. He was legit, and, in my opinion, would have been HOF caliber had he stayed healthy. To call him overrated would be a huge mistake....or to even insinuate it. I don't think he would have taken over the all time rushing crown, though. His running style just wouldn't allow that. However, I think he certainly would have been top 10 all time and HOF.
