The last time the Aggies were this confident they were going to beat Tennessee

They lost 38-7
Reggie McNeal aka Michael Vick 2.0 was going to run over, around, and through the VOL defense. Then kickoff came and reality hit them in the face. Slick Rick Clausen got Cotton Bowl MVP and went in dry.

Just came here to post that both teams should return to the uniforms pictured in the OP and stop wearing the shite they rock now.

Slick Rick was our 3rd string QB LOL:
DALLAS ? Rick Clausen hardly looked like a third-stringer.
Buried as a backup for most of the season, Clausen led No. 15 Tennessee to five touchdowns in just 2 1/2 quarters and Volunteers' defense shut down No. 22 Texas A&M for a 38-7 romp in the Cotton Bowl on Saturday.

Sorry, have we played them since then?
As Tennessee quarterback Rick Clausen learned this season, “it’s funny how things happen in sports.
“A month ago, people didn’t even want my autograph,“ Clausen said with a chuckle. “Now they’re handing me trophies.”
The Sanford Trophy, to be exact.
Just a month ago, Clausen would have been considered the unlikeliest of candidates for the honor that is awarded to the offensive MVP of the SBC Cotton Bowl Classic. On New Year’s Day 2005, however, the former third-string quarterback picked up the gleaming hardware after leading his team to a 38-7 victory over Texas A&M in the 69th installment of the historic bowl.
A poised and consistent Clausen threw for 222 yards and three touchdowns in the convincing win over the Aggies, improving Tennessee’s record to 10-3 to culminate the 2004 campaign. He completed 18 of 27 passes, including what started out as a five-yard out route to C.J. Fayton during the Vols’ first possession of the game. The junior wide receiver turned it into a 57-yard scoring romp down the sidelines with only 2:27 elapsed off the clock, quickly setting a dominating tone for the Vols, as well as their starting quarterback.
“I told the guys ‘Let’s go down and make a statement,’” Clausen said.

A&M was 7-4 going into that game. I can't imagine fans were very confident entering that matchup.

Kevin Sumlin is not Dennis Franchione.
John Chavis is not Carl Torbush.
The 2004 Aggies lost to a 3-win Baylor team and dumbass Bill Byrne gave Franchione an extension.

That Cotton Bowl led to a lot of optimism for the 2005 Vols, including a preseason #3 ranking.

Top 10
College gameday making its third appearance at a UT game this year. I repeat, THIRD. In six weeks.
ESPN just recently had a front page story about our win over UGA
We're about to be picked as the CBS game of the week for the fourth week in a row
But yeah, we aren't relevant

A&M was an underdog in that game and essentially we got bumped to the Cotton Bowl because they knew we would sell tickets. Did we hope to win? Sure, but it wasn't like A&M was some powerhouse at 7-4 with losses to Utah, Texas, OU, and a very bad Baylor team.
The only thing memorable about that game for A&M was the legendary "Listeater" controversy where people were camped out for tickets and they made a list of where people were in line and a BSC fat chick grabbed the list and ate it. LIsteater
It was the glory of the Fran era.

Kinda what I was thinking, although he usually sticks to flaming LSU and VOLS. User Camel Menthol is taking a shite in every thread.
