I'm not even sure Saban is worthy of a $12MM buyout. If there's any potential you'll have to buy them out, don't hire them, or put significant performance goals in the contract. Coach O would have taken the job with significantly less I am confident.

It is for recruiting. Nowadays programs will negative recruit other programs if the coach doesn't seem 100% supported.

But the risk of that happening is infinitesimal. Dude will retire on his own whenever Ms. Terry tells him it's time. Until then yall will be at the top of the pile every year.

Nebraska failing to get the rest of the Big 12 to sign off on the partial qualifiers they enjoyed for years. That combined with their recruiting of the fertile grounds of Texas was severed by their jump to the Big 10. Old Tom decided to allow the rumor that Texas was the cause of all the problems, when in reality it was nothing more then Nebraska could no longer manipulate who was allowed to attend university.
So it wasn't so much of bad hires that hurt the once powerhouse of Nebraska football, as it was for the first time they could no longer allow players who had no business being at an institution of higher learning to come there simply to play football. And then throw them away once their legibility was used up.

I think if Price does not get caught with strippers and paying for them on the University credit card, you might not have Nick Saban today.
Mike Price was a good coach

We tried to warn them about O.

It's our stupid AD. He is a idiot who don't know how to hire a football coach. O will be gone after next year.

We hired a guy that was Mr. 5-19 (20.8% winning).. That has to be the worse hire on paper there ever was (I agree on paper)... yes Cam won a NC, but we are still paying for that screwed up hire.. (WTF? How are we paying for it? We won another SEC title in 2013 and played for another natty.)
ETA: And the dumb-arse who hired him is still the AD...I agree with this.

Mike Price might have been a decent coach. But we'll never know.
Dude, the man was throwing packets of sugar at the media in one of his first press conferences...I suppose to let everyone know our goal was to be in the Sugar Bowl.
I was embarrassed about Price before Destiny even reared her skank-arse head.

Yeah but other programs don't even have to negative recruit against you if you hire a shitty head coach who gets blown out by teams like Mississippi State.
