......I don't even know how to react to that. It's like listening to pundits talk about the incredible linguistic skills of George W. Bush or the generous humanitarian traits of Adolph Hitler.
Cam truly is the greatest football player of all time.

He didn't call plays when he was your HC, did he?

Yep, he did.

For the first 49 games, Rader operated in conjunction with head coach Mike Shula, which is to say Shula called the plays. Thursday, with Shula no longer around, Rader called 'em all.

Mike Shula has grown as an assistant coach. Anyone who disagrees with that just hates on the man to hate on him.

Didn't know that. I think he has evolved quite a bit the past couple of years.

I will never forget the ad in the Crimson White for the Spring 2007 Corolla :
"Because how else will you explain the Jumbo Package to your kids?"........with a picture of McClain/Castille/Darby in the backfield.

Shula might be a good candidate for the AU job.

Clearly has. He was always good with quarterbacks, but his playcalling chops have really evolved. Credit to Rivera for giving him space to do that.

I won't ever hate on Shula. I believe he did the best he could while here. He just wasn't ready for the job yet. And he took the job when we were at arguably the lowest point we'd been at since Ears Whitworth. He didn't do anything to shame the University and helped bring some stability back to it after the mess that ensued post-Stallings. I hope he continues to have success in the future.

I don't hate Shula either, never have and never will. This thread isn't about hating him.

My grandmother could call plays for Cam Newton and look like an offensive genius and she is blind.

They have an offensive line with 1-2 solid players and a bunch of NFL backups, average running backs and a receiving core filled with non-drafted free agents like Philly Brown.
And they were at the top of the league in offense.

I don't recall any other superstars on Auburn's offense when Cam was there either, but I'll be damned if they didn't go undefeated and win the NC while being near the top of the league in offense.
I am agreeing with you that Cam is a great player.
They aren't in this position because of Shula's playcalling.

Excellent point. He's pretty incredible. But Shula's playcalling has expanded as Cam has improved. Their first few years in Carolina that offense was extremely limited and conservative, and they had better skill guys back then. Cam has gotten better (mostly because of Cam but also due to Shula) and Shula has utilized him well.

Michael Dyer (5-star) was a heavily recruited RB who ran for over 1,000 yards in their championship year. Terrell Zachary (4-star) and Darvin Adams (4-star) were both excellent WRs for them in 2009 and 2010. They also had a solid TE option in Philip Lutzenkirchen (4-star).

Shula called a great first half today. There are a lot of average play callers that would look like geniuses calling plays for Cam though.

Shula has become a very respected OC and QB handler at the highest level. Very proud to have had him as a player and coach at UA. He will get a shot in the NFL at some point in all likelihood

He's not the former Coach Mike that I talk shite about.
