The actor chosen to portray Bear Bryant in Forrest Gump was terrible

I'm guessing that the actor did zero research on the character he was playing. His mannerisms/speech/accent weren't anywhere close to accurate. Hell they should have done Bear like they did with Lennon and LBJ, superimposed if you will. Poor casting choice in an otherwise great movie.

He had like 2 lines. Who cares?

ETA: Holy shite it was Enos from the Hazzard County Sherrifs Department!

True. And it seems like they got the 3rd Duke cousin to play him.

There was a Hollywood movie called "The Bear" starring Gary Busey (before his accident made him insane). It's impossible to find. Word is, the Bryant family hated it so much they bought up the rights and destroyed it.

I agree, he was too sober to play the Bear.

Yes, it's the story of the Everyman in American history. It's a think piece.

I have a DVD copy that I bought in 2002 or 2003. It's pretty fricking horrid.

I believe that Bryant said that the only person who he would want to portray him was John Wayne.

Pretty much. Old crusty. Not at all like the actor they chose.

Reminds me of a dooley quote (which coincidentally was also mentioned in an ESPN article today about the 80 UGA/UT game)

When talking about herschel as a true freshman leading up to his first game, "I don't think he knew where he was running, but one thing was for sure- he was going somewhere in a hurry"

Didn't everyone know that was Enos from the Dukes of Hazzard?

Who saw that schlock Junction Boys, an ESPN production I believe, and Tom Berenger as Bear? Just horrible.
