how happy are you with Noel Mazzone hire? For most UCLA fans I would say his departure was 70-30 happy to see him go.

They delusionally accept him, kind of like how we did with Kevin Steele.

Out the window of the jet, you see L.A. like a Bruin.

This is question that will be better answered in about 2 months. Kinda hard to answer without a single down of football played.

Disagree, it was a weak hire.

If texags is a way to get the common opinion of your average a&m football fan, I'd say it's 80% were disappointed in the hire, 10% don't care and 10% were happy.

Come on Aggie fans, I am not trolling here. Mazzone gave UCLA a shot in the arm when it was going through its darkest of days but he had limitations. Not sure his scheme did just that Mazzone as play caller did. Wonder what you all think of the hire one week before the game. I like the Aggies not because of Johnny but because you guy are giving the rest of the SEC a run and making them earn their titles.

It obviously wasnt a home run hire, but to ask how we feel about it right now, without seeing any actual game time, is asking us to reach.

Start the thread again in November. We will have a more detailed response.

I do think we will run the ball more this year and attempt to control a little clock.

But who knows.

here are some comments from some Bruin fans. Now don't get me wrong Mazzone system is stat juggernaut but his game calling is part if the issue. I think that you guys could have found better. I look forward to Saturdays game, just wish it was 5pm.

Mazzone is a very good OC. He just seems to have too many hiccups to be a championship-winning OC is all. We were lucky to have him join at the time he did but it was clearly time for a parting of ways on both sides.

Yeah, although M-zone had his flaws, and probably peaked at UCLA, he did help put us back on the map.

I think Hundley helped Mazzone out a lot. I also think at fired Mazzone can confuse a conference but after time he becomes very predictable.

To be honest, there were good and bad things about Mazzone. When things were clicking, the offense was really good. We could move quickly and put up serious yardage. And score quickly. However, if things were off, it looked bad. Also issues in the red zone. And Mazzone seemed to have issues adjusting and preparing for the team we were playing. If defenses play their receivers tight and they can't get separation, we have seen what can happen. Or if defenses load the box and bring pressure, well then we have seen that as well. Easy offense to learn, but it seems to have a ceiling.

What bothered me was no change when we moved from Hundley to Rosen. Still showed the zone read when there was no way Rosen was going to carry. We should have redesigned the running game some with Rosen.

He's going to do very well with Knight

I like the style of offense (could use some quick slants) but his play calling was horrid

Do you think he can confuse the SEC? Probably not. I am merely going from our experience with him. At first he seemed to do some good stuff and put teams off balance but he soon got predictable. Again, Hundley helped him a lot as well.

Mazzone has a great offensive scheme. He unfortunately does not call a good game too often. If he prepared more and used the full array of plays, I doubt people would be complaining.

Agree. He (Mazzone) also needed to add some under center/power stuff for short yardage. Especially when he doesn't have a Hundley as a run threat.

if the game came down to out coaching or outsmarting the opponent we would almost never win. This was especially true last year when the games we won were the ones we just had a big advantage athletically.
I really enjoyed Mzzone the first couple years but the last two(more 2015) were hard to watch especially when it came to adjusting the game plan.

.... this was his issue. It always seemed we had to get down 21-0 and go three-and-out four consecutive times before he'd realize that the 24-blast isn't working..

Agree with everything above, but would like to point out that we often had success in the first qtr, and even the 2nd. This seemed to be due to his game planning a solid variety of plays to start, but wasn't able to adjust as his attack became obvious. I think we really need to have our defense ready as soon as the game starts, because his play calling can be deadly then, and I don't want to be in a 2 td hole.

The hire could have been much worse. He's solid and we'll see how he does with superior talent

A+ so far. He was able to go get us Trevor Knight, Nick Starkel, and Aaron Hansford at the tail end of last season.

He was able to get rid of Tate Martel and get us some QBs who can see over the OL in Elite 11 performers Blumerick and Mond.

He also already has a QB commit for the 2018 class. Not to mention his recruits probably got us a few defensive players in Marchiol and Johnson too.

I like him. He has always wanted to work with sumlin and I'd rather get an established OC like Mazzone than get someone from a smaller school.

we accepted Steele the same way (at least at lot of us LSU fans did) and boy were we deluded. he presided over the worst defense at LSU I've seen since the 90's.

Most people I talked to were disappointed, because they were hoping for the TCU OC.

Still not excited, but he really can't be worse than Spav, has a lot of experience, and has recruited well. We'll see.

Weak hire, but better than Spav. You don't understand what we had been dealing with. We had a teenager calling the plays who had no business having the job. Anyone who is at least competent is better than that. Noel Mazzone is at least competent, you have to admit that. No one is saying he is great. Just that we are glad to have an adult in that job now.
