“We’ve got to get ourselves off the field, defensively,” he said. “Certainly, because of the pace of the game, there’s probably going to be more plays in the game, that means you’ll end up playing more plays, but it doesn’t matter. Regardless of what kind of offense you play with, defensively, you’ve got to get the ball back. You’ve got to get off the field without giving up points.”
quote:

“In my opinion, we’ve got a chance to have the best two defensive ends in college football,” Chavis said. “That’s a big statement. But we’ve got some talent there, and it shows. There’s no doubt about that. We’re going to be good enough in the secondary to win. Now the thing we have to do is we’ve got to develop depth.
quote:

“What’s happening in college football over the last 10-15 years with offensive coaches like Coach Sumlin is playing so fast, depth is a big part. It used to be you’d get 11 guys and you could go play. You’ve got to have 22 guys now. That’s important now, because you have to rest them. It’ll be important for us to develop depth, and we’ve got to get those linebackers ready to play.”

They better be used to playing contain and not pass rushing.

A highly paid DC is now realizing that you have to have depth and backups?

I don't think you've ever been able to trot out 11 defensive players for a game since the 30s.

As long as he doesn't try to run a 1A and 1B you'll be in good shape.

Depth is what most LSU fans have been warning Aggy about since they hired Chavis. They'll be fine as long as their offense doesn't sputter one bit. If they get into a ball control type game where their offense can't stay on the field and a team like LSU, Bama, UGA or Auburn is playing ball control offense they will be gassed by the 3rd quarter. And their secondary has a ways to go in a Chavis scheme. He requires way too much man coverage to just have average play back there.

Well, you can't win with 13 either, Tennessee tried it.

Chavis needs more than 11 defenders to stop the damn QB draw

The fact he's acting like this is some revelation is hilarious.

And as we have been saying since we hired Chavis that situation is a huge upgrade over what we had. Because we know this:

It will be that way as long as Sumlin is coach no matter the DC.

He's a guru remember? Aggy thinks LSU didn't even play defense before Chavis got here.

He's using the old Bear Bryant poor-mouthing tactic. Chavis will be successful and win at A&M*.
