When you look for reasons that LSU is so dominant in baseball, look no further than the hometown column of the roster.

Of the 33 players listed on LSU's roster, a whopping 16 are from out-of-state. Compare that to Texas A&M's three.

I know there's a huge population disparity. Texas has 27 million to Louisiana's 4.5 million inhabitants. But Texas also has much stiffer competition for top Texas talent. Texas, A&M, TCU, Houston and Rice all come to mind.

A head coach at a Texas school must be under immense pressure from Texans who have groomed their son to be the next Longhorn or Aggie. A Texas coach must not only win but also preserve state pride by winning with Texans.

The nicest, most expensive facilities that oil and ice cream riches can buy won't translate to athletic success until Texas A&M can overcome its hubris.

You are wrong that we have a pressure to win with Texans in baseball or even football. We just have a lot of Texans because we are in Texas.

On the football team (much more visible) we constantly recruit top talent out of state and no one cares. Maybe the other school has that pressure, we don't.

Aggie doesn't have a chance at signing any non-Texan that LSU wants.

Yeah, I agree with you to an extent. That is kind of staggering that aTm only has 3 out of staters. The state of Texas is rich with baseball talent so can't really blame them for recruiting strict state talent. I will say though that while aTm competes with Texas schools for recruits, LSU recruits against those same schools as well as the Major Leagues.

MLB $$$ has kept LSU from having a college baseball monopoly.

Texas is one of the most talent rich states for all sports, especially for baseball. They don't really need to go outside the state and I think this internal pressure you speak of is overstated.

You can't compare population without comparing land mass. LSU has more compatition from more successful college programs when comparing the same land size. Texas schools do less with more than any other area in the country.

Angie is actually the secret name the world shares when secretly discussing Aggies. Now somebody has gone and let it out. There will be Measures taken to
prevent this sort of thing in the future.

Isn't A&M incredibly insular? As in, they take very few kids from out of state, take almost all competitive legacies who apply, etc.? I've also heard A&M is very big on taking kids with life stories.

So say the Texans I know, anyway.

Actually since my time at A&M legacies stopped getting easier paths to admittance. The top 10% rule dominates all.

We accept Aggies from all walks of life as long as you buy in to the cult.

That kind of narrows down the walks now doesn't it?

Despite popular opinion, Texas A&M is an incredibly diverse institution. This is much attributed to the previously mentioned Top 10% Rule. If a high schooler ranks in the top 10% of her graduating class, she is in. Period. Race is inconsequential. The rule was specifically designed to avoid affirmative action. A&M and tu admissions are dominated by 10%ers. Somewhere on the order of 75%.

I bet the Cheer Boy roster is right at 100%. There is no way you grow up outside of Texas and agree to wear that corny uniform and do all that goofy-arse sign language bullshite. Absolutely no way.

You want me to wear what? And do what? On camera? During the best years of my life? Um no...

Or could it be a function of playing in the second most populous state in the country?
