@FootballScoop: Have heard that if they win 8, as administration expects, they would like to extend Butch again.

Wow...so this game is a win-win for us. If we win, we're bowl eligible. If Tennessee wins, they keep Butch Jones

I really wish I could find a job that rewards me so richly for doing nothing more than meeting the minimum requirements.

This.

I really still like Butch and said 8-4 was the bottom level for meeting my expectation for this year.

But why would you extend him for just barely meeting expectations?

He has plenty of time on his contract so there is no rush, it's not like it will help recruiting to extend it from 2020 to 2021 or whatever it is.

Wait until after 2016. If we win 10+ games in 2016 then he would deserve a raise and extension.

But not until then.

You are setting yourself up to extend him and then IF it goes bad next year and we are sitting at 6-6 or 7-5 you're stuck with a huge buyout.

Stupid.

What's wrong with Butch? Great recruiting classes and his only losses this year are to legit teams. We needed some heroics from Coker to win that game.

No kidding. I mean, Hart gave him an extension and hefty raise for going 7-6 last year. I can't imagine what he will get this year if VOLS finish with 8 regular season wins and Butch's agent starts floating his name out for the Virginia Tech job as expected.

I don't really hate Butch but I think giving extensions for 8 win seasons at Tennessee is just absurd. Had he hung onto the leads against UF and OU and won the East, sure, give that man a raise.

This is the kind of shite the UTAD did during Fulmer's final years and why we had to pay him for nearly 3 years after he was fired.

We're impatient. That's pretty much it. I think coaches are overpaid in general but it's pretty standard to give them extensions following a good season and 8-4 with sweeping everyone in our division minus UF is a pretty good year given the circumstances.

This is one of the unfortunate things about the world of college football these days. When an opening comes open, coaches leverage it to get a raise and extension. ADs- at least the overreactive ones- give it to them for just meeting minimum standards.

I got into the wrong profession.

I dunno, I just feel like Tennessee is headed in the right direction with him, and you probably won't regret extending him a few years from now.

That's how every job works at the highest levels. You just aren't elite at your job.
