After last two hitting coaches have gotten head jobs (Wichita St, Tenn), Arkansas should have little trouble hiring a new hitting coach.

What's the thought on Tony?

We've been so bad at baseball for so long I haven't kept up with who is trending up/trending doen.

Damn good recruiter. I like the hire, but I'm biased because he's friends with my cousin.

Great recruiter, no HC experience. Weird hire IMO

This isn't football. Hiring an assistant worked out fine for MSU, UK and Auburn.

I like it. Young and enthusiastic. Elite recruiter that will hopefully keep the strong local talent home around Knox

And Florida, and Texas A&M, and Vandy (kind of, Corbin had some HC experience but not much), and Louisville

True enough, but the fact that he has no HC experience means simply nobody knows one bit about how he'd do as HC. Anyone stating otherwise is full of shite.
Sure, Arky fans will say it's a loss for them and they'd be right, but that doesn't mean one thing about how he'll do as HC. Noboby knows. Especially at UT. Friggin Dave Serrano was a failure there.

I wonder if this or Holbrook would have been a better hire.

Holbrook didn't do bad here, just bad by South Carolina standards.

South Alabama coach is claiming he turned the job down.

maybe SC contacted him when they found out he was talking to UT.

He may have his eyes set on South Carolina.

Usually the choice is go with the guy that hasn't proven he can't do something, even if he hasn't proven he can.

Holbrook essentially Smoke Laval'd South Carolina, and proved he couldn't maintain a built up program.

He may end up being a better coach long term, but right now 0-0 on the record looks better than 0-1, metaphorically speaking.

My line of thinking as well.

It's a gamble, either way. One that a program like Tennessee needs to take.

I don't know about Calvi. I'm just not totally sold on him.
