Despite fielding one of the most atrocious defensive talent of all time, Tennessee is #20 in the country in red zone defense which is tied with FSU. And that's counting the Oregon game. UT also has better scoring defense than UGA, counting 60 point loss to Oregon.
This is Jancek's first year in the new system and Grantham's 4th year with roster full of 4* 5* talent.

Yes, Grantham sucks. He had a loaded with talent D last year, and they underperformed big time. He is bad.

While you're not going to hear any UGA fan defend Grantham, I advise Vol fans not to grow too comfortable with Jancek and Willie. If Butch is capable of building the program up, he needs to drop those clowns in a couple of years for something better. Just not great coaches (fine for the interim, though).

Jancek might turn out to be mediocre-above average DC. But you're right, if he can't field an elite defense in a few years he needs to GTFO eventually. We won't tolerate mediocrity, we demand excellence.

Its all about the head coach. Just because they didn't work out under Richt doesn't mean they won't work out under Butch. Jancek has been with Jones for over 4 years and Jancek knows exactly what Jones wants in his defense.
A good example is Harry Heistand being a horrible fit under Dooley(all coaches were) yet being a great oline coach at Notre Dame. It all starts from the top down. Your problem was and still is Mark Richt.
