I hate that nasty-arse Jim and Nicks has a location on King, and tourists flock to it thinking that garbage is what SC BBQ is.

We have one in Lancaster County--well Indian Land. Glad you shared your opinion on this one.

1) Scott's BBQ in Hemingway
2) Brown's BBQ in Kingstree
3) Schoolhouse BBQ in Scranton
4) McCabe's BBQ in Manning
5) Country Cousins BBQ in Olanta

This is my top 5 in South Carolina. They are all in Williamsburg, Florence or Clarendon Counties.

Didn't know they existed till we played in the 2005 bowl game. Was sad, then happy.

My maternal grandmother was from Cades and my mom grew up on a farm between Turbeville and New Zion.

Anyone been to the new Lewis BBQ in Charleston yet? It's motherfricking delicious but expensive as hell. I spent $45 on lunch. 2 slices of brisket, 2 slices of smoked turkey, 2 ribs, a sausage link, and a side of corn pudding. I had a little left over to take home, but shite I was shocked when they rang me up at the register.

Typical hipster BBQ "joint" bs.

When I lived in Johnsonville, I use to go the back way through New Zion to get to 378. Blink twice and you miss the town.

visited charleston for a wedding ... played the ocean course ... didn't get to see much of charleston, but i imagine it's at least a decent place to visit/live ...

fairly weak effort on sc's part to take fort sumter the first time ... should not have taken a day and a half, but that's just a quibble ... hope usc wins it all ...

It's really good food, but it's way over priced. Honestly, I think they're banking on the fact that everything is already expensive as frick in Charelston, so people will pay exorbitant amounts of money for BBQ, too. Give me Home Team with their smoked wings and pain killers all day long.

Lewis is apparently considered one of the best pit masters in Texas by a lot of "foody" type folks, and his brisket is delicious. Just watch yourself if you give it a try. They do everything by the pound, so 2 slices of brisket doesn't sound like much, but at $30 lb it comes out to like $12.

Good info. I knew Lewis was one of the hot places in Charleston but with those prices I'm not going. I get pissed when I pay $14 for a chopped plate at The Pit...barbecue is really a working man's food and it should stay that way.

I've yet to attend a game there but all the Cocks fans I've met are decent passionate folks. And the gameday atmosphere (as shown on TV) looks like it's a must to make one day.

You know, obviously I know Tulane exists, is in New Orleans, was in the original SEC and has played football for a long time and has some accomplishments (no idea what, but the force tells me they do without googling).

But while you eliminated football for a few year or something (think it was you guys), really what holds you back in football?

You are in a premier area for recruits. LSU may be a recruiting powerhouse, but there are tons of players nearby. Not as good as the Atlanta or Miami metros given the sheer populations in those areas, but some really good HS players.

I mean looking at your setup it is really good as far as natural recruiting areas goes. Plus you could sell living in New Orleans like Miami can Miami or Southern Cal LA if you go out of region or get a wild hair to do national recruiting.

So besides money (or lack of big TV money rather), what's the deal?

After Bowden and Rodriguez left the AD didn't want to spend the $ to keep hot up and comers streaming thru. And Nick Saban showed up...

Had fun tailgating with USC fans in Baton Rouge in 2015. They were classy people, given what they had just been through.
