Moved to Columbia SC in 1995 and left in 2013. The best 18 years of my life. I was the Pastor of a church for 12 years and met my wife (a Clemson grad) there.

We go back several times a year to visit family and friends.

Columbia is a great place to live and raise a family. Especially in Lexington, Chapin or Blythewood.

This place was featured on Top Chef Charleston. Rodney Scott just moved and opened up a new place in Charleston, but the Hemingway location is still going.

If you live in Hemingway and have a tree that needs to be cut up and hauled away, you can apparently call Scott's BBQ and they will come take it so they can use it for their smokers.

Yep..He just opened in Charleston and I hope he has the success like he did in Hemingway. I was born and raised 5 miles from Hemingway. There has been several times I went over to his store and waited 2 hours to get BBQ. Worth every minute.

I hope so, too.

I still maintain the belief that BBQ places are better in the rural areas, but I really hope he does well in Charleston.

Come on now. You know SC rednecks call everyone "bo", not "baw".

My maternal grandmother was from Cades and my mom grew up in Turbeville. Scott's BBQ is by far the best in the state. Nothing like some good pepper vinegar bbq and baked beans with a Red Rock soda.

True enough (though there are lots of good places still to raise a family).

But you need to tell them about the warts as well. Like how still the air gets in Columbia in the summer. How it can be incredibly humid even if it hasn't rained in weeks.

From your handle I guess you are from Louisiana, or spent time there.

Really curious as to how the two compare on that point. I think the terrain, along with the Congaree and Lake Murray make it incredibly hot in Columbia in the summer.

The BT is, in fact, open again and not much has changed. They have a good brunch now, too.

They cut down one of the trees back on the back patio and they changed the configuration of their Ring the Bull game so that people now have to walk through the middle of it, which is kind of dumb, but it's not all that different.

We don't have roaches in Charleston; those are Palmetto Bugs.
The terrible driver part, though, yeah.

But in all seriousness, whatever they were. They were nasty. I mean, every warm climate has them. And all in all, they didn't stop me from liking Charleston. I had a couple of buddies who moved back once they got out.

I've only been to maybe 5 barbecue joints in SC and a couple of those were Maurice's. Scott's is very high on my list along with Hite's and Jackie Hite's. I've been to a million NC barbecue joints so can advise on that.

You haven't lived until one flies onto you in the middle of the night. One flew down my wife's shirt at the band area of Harbor Town one night. It was a scene.

Glad to hear it's basically the same. One of my all time favorites.

South Carolina BBQ is the best anywhere in the US, especially the pulled pork with that sauce.

The flavor and process of smoking is completely different from that in Texas and the southwest

Attended the 2003 LSU v So Carolina game. The folks were very hospitable and the girls were hot!
That's it.
