Dan is a good coach, but has a shelf life at MSU, just like he will anywhere else he goes. He's no Patterson or Petrino, but one of the best qb coaches around. With that said, he lacks fire and has too many interests outside of football. I think he gets distracted.
Eta - To the ignorant OP, MSU still has the best overall football facilities in the state, and is a top 100 research school. So your argument doesn't add up.

With our schedule, it doesn't take much to win 6 games a year. Struggling the way we have since loosing Prescott has been eye opening for me.
How would we regard Mullen if not for those two full years Dak Prescott graced us with his presence? He would likely be on the same level as Will Muschamp and Mark Stoops.

He is not a bad coach, but he is overrated. They never play anyone OOC, so that is 4 wins right there. Then he beats up on Kentucky every year, so he has 5 easy wins. Finally, he has lucked up and played teams in the east when they are weak...Vanderbilt before and after Franklin, Tennessee when they sucked, South Carolina this year, Missouri last year...just look at his record against the west since he has gotten there...13-27...he actually had a worse record against the west his first five years than Croom did...think about that. He will run into Georgia, Florida and Tennessee the next three years and his team is not as young as everyone thinks....His best WR, 3 OL, 2 top RBs, 5 DL, 3 LB and several in the Secondary are all seniors...although a couple in the secondary are hurt. 6 is probably his ceiling for the next three years....and they still don't play a P5 team this year or next OOC.

Damn good coach and a decent guy

False . He is still at State because he doesn't deserve a better job.

Mostly accurate. Mullen's success rides on the usability and talent of the qb. But the fact that our defense isn't top 5 in the league right now, is solely on him. He has hurt us more than helped us recently.

False. He's a good coach that squandered a great O-line and the best QB we'll ever have. He's also failed to field a solid defense for at least the past 3-4 seasons. Losing to Georgia Tech the season where we were 1 win away from Atlanta should have warmed his seat up quite a bit. The following season should have cooled it off slightly, as we did lose a good bit of talent and still had a competitive team. However, after the loss to USA and the near loss to UMass, his seat should be pretty damn hot right about now. He gets paid way too much money for the "Well he's technically the best we've had" excuse to work. As much as I hate to give Piss credit, they've made solid progress with their no-name high school football coach. We're not Bama or Auburn; we should be one of the schools than can take risks on unproven coaches.

I haven't read past the first page, but have we gotten to the point in this Egg Bowl thread where we start to discuss restaurants and which towns in MS really suck?

Which season was that? I honestly can't recall
Edit: Sorry you must have been talking about 2014. Hate to break it to you but you were one win away from the CFP. Nobody is getting to Atlanta from the west with 2 SEC losses while Saban is still in T-town

Will Mullen be following his AD to Florida?

I think the emergence of Ole Moss hurt them worse than anything. IF OM gets sanctions I wonder if that will give them the footing they need to turn it around.

is he a great coach? No, I don't believe he is.

agreed... I don't feel like he's done particularly well, tbh. Y'all the best qb in the SEC two years ago, one of the best O and D lines, and two NFL receivers, a great coach would have run the table, and used that success to gain more notoriety.
I know some of that is due to the AD office not marketing themselves as well as they could, but I feel like he just let that season go to waste with no ROI

I believe Dan Mullen is a coach. True.

They are young this year and my guess is he will jump at next job to get out of west.
What SEC team is playing the least amount of Freshman and RS Freshman?
MSU, they are not a "young" team.
