LSU was 2nd in the SECW, they won the head to head tie breaker. End of year rank has nothing to do with where you finished in divisional standings(unless there's a 3 way tie)

SEC Standings were

Bama
UGA
UF
LSU
T-5 TAM/USC

You were probably, at least I hope, trolling.

Yup TAMU was 3rd in SEC West. I assume he was kidding.

But then TAMU did not embarrass the conference by losing to an ACC team Carolina had recently manhandled.

My point is that in reality we should be considered second best in the west, regardless of what the "official" ranking says. You don't get to lose to climpsin and get to stay at #2.

But in reality, you were third in the West.

I hear ya man, but there's quite a difference in Trooper and Sumlin. I don't think you can even compare the 2.

He's probably telling the truth. He probably sees the next two years as his best chance at a BCS championship and then might entertain a move later on. He's a young guy that will probably have several more coaching jobs before it's all said and done.

This. Besides, he can sit back and let Chip Kelly serve as the "canary in the coal mine" as far as whether a not a college coach with one of those crazy college offenses can thrive in the NFL.

Kelly is the stalking horse. If he has success in Philly this year and A&M has another strong year (as well as JFF), the dumptruck full of NFL cash will make its way to College Station.

We'll see what Summy says/does if THAT happens.

It wouldn't surprise me if the Eagles made a run at Sumlin, even offering him the job, after everyone assumed Chip Kelly was staying at Oregon.

We'll never know for sure, but the Bills hired a worse college coach... so why would it be a shock if Sumlin were offered a job?

I think some folks are afraid he's going to stay at TAMU for a while. Chip got a good NFL gig, despite the psychotic Philly fanbase. Sumlin knows he needs to wait for the right gig to come along, not just some shitty job coaching the Raiders. Besides, there aren't many jobs better than the one he has now.
