I want to know if any of your favorite teams have a new offense of coordinator who is bringing in a new type of offense or even a head coach who's changing the offensive philosophy of the team.

In ole Miss's case we have Phil Longo he's a air raid disciple but he also runs the ball quite a bit which is typically contrary to an air raid type offense.

In your opinion which offensive scheme do you think is most effective and which do you think is the most easily defended?

If you want a breakdown of the type of offense that Longo runs all attached a link it just breaks down the x's and o's and it has a lot to do with bubble screens.

You go back and you look at what the Miami Dolphins used to run and that used to do the Wildcat and it only work for about a year or two with Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown and then it kind of fell apart because defensive coordinators were able to defend it similar to what Houston Nutt started doing at Ole Miss with the wild Rebel.

Do you think that there is a defensive set for every single play in college football where do you think that certain plays have a distinct Advantage no matter what the defensive coordinator plays?

LINK

The link is to an Ole Miss site but that's not the point the point is is that it does a fairly decent job of breaking down the type of offense that this guy runs.

The pros of it are that he did put up very good numbers at an FCS program it may completely fail at the next level especially going against SEC defenses.

On top of that it does the quarterback no favors in preparing them for a future at the next level because it does not require the quarterback to read the defense at all.

In fact the quarterback doesn't read the defense but the wide receivers do basically they look at where their space and then make the call based on where they can get the yards which in very simple terms should technically be what every team does I imagine to gain yards.

If you like offensive strategy if you like seeing stuff broke down I would like to have a decent discussion with fans of offense in general whether that's a West Coast style offense or whether that's run pass offense or air raid or and iteration of the spread.

Another thing to point out is that this guy's offense got completely shut down in the championship game against the eventual FCS champion I mean 100% shut down. Now I don't know if that was because the quarterback was injured or what happened to the offense of line or if someone just figured out how to defend it I didn't watch the game I just know that they got destroyed.

Innovation on offense is kind of like creating a new music genre. Different doesn't mean better.

I only read the TITLE because your post is FAR too DAMN long. Chip Lindsey is AUBURN's new offense coordinator and his offense is INNOVATIVE. He incorporates RPOs with a vertical PLAY ACTION passing game. USING the power run game to bring the SAFETIES down into the box.

nobody has really innovated much offensively in decades, just recycled old ideas. its like fricking, everything has been tried before.

I think that question depends 100% on the personnel available. Everything from triple option to 5-wide air raid would work at a high level, so long as you have the horses to execute.

Personally, I still believe that successfully running the ball and stopping the run are the most consistent ways to win, especially in the SEC. Ball control isn't as sexy as slinging it all over the field, but it's certainly the best way I've seen to preserve a lead and stop the other team from icing the game.

I am still waiting for a college coach to try the whole barely ever punt and go for it on most 4th downs thing.

I think most of the innovation on offense these days comes from nuances you can't see without studying film. Blocking techniques, route combinations and play calling where plays you run the first QTR are setup to expose the defense in the 2nd half.

In reality though I think rule changes have the greatest impact on how offense changes. As the rules change so does the strategy on how best to use them to your advantage.

This approach relies heavily on a good defense. It's probably the best "all around" play style but the hardest to get the personnel for because it requires a lot of depth or very fit players on both sides of the ball.

You must be a young buck.

When Hal Mummy was at Kentucky, hell would have frozen over before he would punt
