Bleacher Report

quote:

Are you ready for the hype machine, Auburn?

Get ready, because despite the 35-19 loss to Oklahoma in the Allstate Sugar Bowl, it's coming.

quote:

Yes, we're doing this again. We are going down the road of expecting big things from an Auburn quarterback who hasn't logged a ton of playing time—just as we did two years ago when Jeremy Johnson was being discussed as a potential superstar.

quote:

Stidham already is a star, and he proved it in a pinch during the 2015 season at Baylor.

quote:

At 6'3", 210 pounds, he has the ability to see over the line of scrimmage, open up the middle of the field, the arm strength to be a big-time downfield threat and is fast enough to at least pose a threat in the zone read game—a staple of Auburn's offense.

quote:

That's important because, while Sean White was efficient for Auburn during a six-game winning streak in the middle of the season, he's not nearly the deep threat that Stidham is.

White's average of 8.3 yards per attempt is good, but he is 3.3 yards per attempt behind what Stidham posted in 2015. Plus, at 6'0", White wasn't able to do damage over the middle of the field like the taller Stidham can.

quote:

One look at Auburn's offensive production this season will make your head spin. A whopping 4,529 of Auburn's 5,730 yards of total offense in 2016 came from underclassmen who intend to return next season. That's correct—79 percent of Auburn's offense was from players who, for the most part, were unproven commodities at the college level and are coming back.

Cool.

Maybe y'all will get a first down or two in the second half of the Georgia game this year!

The op and the hawg are both correct. Auburn should be good next year, even though their D will take a step back. But if I were an Aub, I'd be the anti-Vol during the off-season.

I agree that Stidham makes Auburn a contender in the SEC at least. How is Auburn's defense looking next season? I know that yall lose some really good Dlinemen, but weren't the secondary and LB units pretty young last season? I know that yall have a few talented Dlinemen that will step up.

our best safety is gone, but he has serviceable backups. Our first 2 corners will both be back, with Carlton hoping for a breakout season. The DL will miss Monty and Carl, but we have some quality guys will PT that will fill that void. LBer is going to be better than last year with guys returning

Insert LF with a heisman pose so we can all laugh at LSU

Deshaun Davis is a really good LBer, people will begin to speak his name a lot more next season IMO.

I kept thinking he was playing over his head this year, but the longer it went on, the more he convinced me how great he is.

I would ask who starts for Bama at LB next year, but I'm too scared to read that list

This is going to be weird not playing our biggest rival every year for a while.

but last season our defense was our best unit, and our offense couldn't beat a HS team

agreed. I think both teams will probably be undefeated going into the game, and it'll be a big one

Our defense loses a few key guys but we have some good depth at those positions. I am not sure if we will be as strong next year on defense but we should be close. On paper

I am not going to buy the Stidham hype. Done that too many times. If he comes out and is a world beater, I will be very happy and ride on. But we have only had two serviceable quarterbacks at Auburn in the past 10 years. I think I will keep my excitement at bay
