Not good to teach high schoolers that quitting is okay.

You obviously have not watched HS football? Just about every state in the country have schools that recruit talented athletes in every sport. I've known High schools to hire kids parents just to get them in the school district by giving them odd jobs or making them assistant coaches. A good friend of mine was contacted by a realtor that told him that his down payment on a home was paid for if he moved in the district with his star athlete son.

Here in Texas, the arms race for talent is ridiculous. I've even seen child protective services get involved in cases where they move a star athlete out of a school to another one where the case worker obviously got a kick back. It is real ugly and not controlled at all.

In two years, he will be head coach of the newly revived East Tennessee State University football program which is currently playing on Kermit Tipton Stadium/Steve Spurrier Field at Science Hill High School in Johnson City.

That will give the program two years to work some kinks out. Spurrier will be a boss in the FCS like old man Jerry Moore was at Appalachian State winning titles galore over in Boone.

Welcome home.

He went to high school at Science Hill High School in Johnson City (about an hour and a half from Knoxville).

He was a pitcher (never lost in 3 years)and an All American QB. He also played basketball. The guy was a phenomenal athlete.

Tennessee didn't seriously recruit him because they ran the wing-T then, which needed a running QB. Spurrier was a passer. So he went to Florida.

True story. That is why he hated TN.
