Spurrier spent the remainder of the night with his family in the suite, as they watched the Gators pull away in the second half to win. He’s still rocking the old flip phone and was continually checking messages and also checking on other scores from around the SEC.

“Why can LSU not get it right on offense? Every year, they have as much talent as anybody in the SEC, and that’s including Alabama,” Spurrier said.

All LSU QBs turn into Jordan Jefferson no matter who the OC is.

I'm starting to wonder if it's a cultural thing that extends beyond the HC. Has LSU ever had a truly potent offense? I mean, the Bear adjusted to give Bama one, as has Saban, but I can't recall ever seeing an LSU offense that wasn't conservative. (I assume that Saban might have implemented a new system had he stayed long enough, but he didn't.) If that's the case, then it won't matter how talented the players are until people at the top start taking the risks associated with trying change, through hires and other enticements, the entire mindset of LSU football.

They had a pretty potent offense in 2001 with Rohan Davey and Josh Reed.

Fair point. I was thinking more about an extended system, but your answer is correct for my question. Also, a pretty decent -- I wouldn't say potent but definitely very good -- one with Mett and co.

That '58 offense was nothing to sneeze at either.

Yeah Billy Cannon was a bad arse.

But really... Does Florida have any room to talk? I've watched their offenses lately too.

But that's not Spurrier's fault. Unfortunately Les flunked Offense. He is just too nice a guy.

LSU needs to recruit a coach's son to qb. That'll turn the offense around.

Maybe they should hire Paul Johnson and start running the triple option.

UF is mainly inexperienced right now. We had a few big drops last night.

But also
New QB making his first start
Same with 2 RBs
Half the wr corps are new.

So it will take a few games to get the timing.

I hope this is the problem anyways. :)

You crazy old-timers and your memory of decades y'all claim existed before 2000. I'm just going to chalk that up to dementia setting in.

Last time I remember LSU being potent on offense was circ 1975-76 and qb was Ensminger? We had to beat you in shootouts when we had a very powerful and fast wishbone offense....but lacked the stout defense.

The transfer that was at UGA years was the best QB they have had in recent years.

Its as simple as this:

LSU used to be able to run everybody over except Alabama because they had superior athletes on the line of scrimmage. Well times have changed, other football programs have learned to put speed on their defense and stop the simple draw play. Miles has refused to change even though all the teams around him have gotten better. Saban is building his defenses to defend the spread better, and he has gone out to hire different offensive coordinators to mix it up. All the while Les continues to bang his head on the sidewalk.

Spurrier is a Nega-Tiger. He should be banned from posting, have his season tickets revoked and told to go root for Saban.

This is why I laugh when the national media seems perplexed at LSU wanting Miles gone.

We've asked these same questions for years now.

Damn, even after he quits he can't stop comparing everything to Alabama.
