My dad watched him play against Missouri in the Sugar Bowl.
I grew up watching him coach Florida into what all the Florida fans expect from their team.
I saw him MAKE South Carolina football.
He is a legend.
He is the SEC. He's part of the reason the legend is so strong.
"You can't spell Citrus Bowl without UT."

Steve Spurrier isn't anymore the SEC than the ball sack of the t-bagger on Bourbon Street.
See ya on the golf courses OBC

He'll definitely go down as one of the all time greatest in the league ... but no one IS the SEC friend.
The SEC is all of us and then some.

I didn't know this board had this many Yankees fans

Is this supposed to be a unique Spurrier thread?

I'm sad Scrooster, to me he WAS the SEC.
Us Midwestern boys in the 80s and 90s only grew up with a few real college football heroes.
For me it started with Barry Switzer and ended with Steve Spurrier.
Those were the two coaches I grew up thinking, if they could only coach my team...

He is one of the all time greats.

Dammit--the SEC just retired! OK, I'm an Ohio State frickeye now. Great! Geaux frickeyes, or some Yankee crap like that. :-(

No but he was once a part of it.

The SEC didn't retire frickhead.
An era just retired.
Just like when Les rolls out.
Or Saban.
The SEC is the SEC because of coaches like the OBC.
He's not THE SEC, but he's the SEC I grew up with.

Would rather see Saban go out with a coronary on the sideline than bitching out mid-season while his city is trying to recover from a natural disaster. Hope the OBC has a damn good reason.

The HBC was the face of the SEC in the 90s IMHO. He was dominant as a team and as a personality.
But the SEC is so big in and of itself.
When I was growing-up it was names like Johnny Vaught and Wally Butts and then along came The Bear and there was Bowden Wyatt and Doug Dickey, Vince Dooley and the great coaches will always be in the SEC.
But the SEC has become bigger than just football thanks to the likes of Skip at LSU and Pat Head Summit at Tennessee and those crazy gymnastics coaches at Auburn and Bama and the track programs at LSU and Arkansas and baseball at LSU and South Carolina and basketball at Kentucky and so on and so forth.
And we have the greatest fans.
The SEC was blessed to have Spurrier in the league for so long. We were. But it is time for him to move on ... it happens to all of us but he;ll go down as a legend. Hell, he already is.
There will be more to come after him. Some are still around. Saban, maybe Richt, Miles, etc. This league keeps on ticking like it always has.
That's mainly because of the energy this league feeds off of from the fans ... like us Brother.

He just held on too long.
It happens.
You're a ruthless mofo if that's how you want to remember him.
He did more for the league in the late 80s and 90s than any other coach.

His coaching has zero bearing on any flooding. Quit being a sniveling twat.

Ohhhhhhh...I took you literally. I thought the SEC was closing its doors. (That means "No shite. Chill out, you Yankee frick.)

It's taken me awhile to realize it, but I think me and you could have a beer or two.
We'd probably have some fun.
You're older than me, we come from different times. You just didn't hear about anyone from the SEC except Spurrier when I was growing up.
Him and Gene Stallings.
I know you guys like to think the SEC has always been the end all of conferences.
It was more regional back then.
In the Big8 Spurrier WAS the king.
More than anyone else down south, we heard about him.

way to go out. Wow.
Hey, hey goodbye Head bitch coach!
