They haven't been until very recently. Louisiana had a dip and will be back to normal in a year or two. Probably the by the start of the 2017 NFL season.
This past NFL season Alabama was 1 Louisiana 2 (1 per 75k to 1 per 78k). Basically the difference in one more player coming out early like Jerald Hawkins could have.
Louisiana had been 1 with Mississippi 2 and Alabama 3-5 range for a while prior

LA has consistently been in that group right behind TX, FL & CA.. I'd put Ohio & GA with them.
Never thought about the Katrina effect.. Had to have hit the numbers for a few years.
Look back in 20-30 years and u'll see even more dominance from the south. Pennsylvania used to be up with Ohio & the quality was insane.

Yeah the 4-5 seasons after Katrina were rough, watching players that grew up in Nola/south La killing it in other states and staying there for college. Some high profile guys.
Still see it here and there but the recruits now were only 5 years old or so when Katrina hit.

The defensive talent from Texas high school has fell hard since the the early 2000s.

Why is that?
You think it has to do with the defensive coaches reacting to the spread offenses or the actual players.
It seems like a lot of our Texas recruits do really well for us: Brockers, Hunter, mills, Adams recently to name a few
