State guys - how do you feel about the matchup?

vs LSU : 47 rushes, 266 yards (5.7 ypc) (avg 277.3 per game)
@ Auburn : 50 rushes, 201 yards (4.0 ypc) (avg 188.9 per game)
@ A&M : 45 rushes, 194 yards (4.3 ypc) (avg 168.6 per game)
vs UK : 33 rushes, 163 yards (4.9 ypc) (avg 135.6 per game)
vs Missouri : 45 rushes, 215 yards (4.8 ypc) (avg 112.1 per game)

SEC teams are averaging +31.2 yards over their yearly average against you guys. We average 195 a game, so that would put us at around 225 (roughly 170 for Henry and 55 for Drake).

Fair prediction- that being said.. I don't think Alabama rushing for 220 beats us?

If we ran for 220 and threw for 180 I would probably feel pretty good about things.

Of course, it all depends how many plays we do it on and have the other side of the ball is going.

Do you think Alabama's defense keeps Dak under 350 passing yards?

MSU will give up a lot of yards. It just depends on whether they can hold Alabama to field goals or touchdowns.

I think Diaz will have to load the box and play one on one in the secondary for State to have a chance to be successful on defense. Offensively I hope we play 5 wide the entire game. If Dak has time to throw, State will keep it close. We haven't ran the ball very effectively and won't against the leagues best defense. State will also need a couple of turnovers to win.

Yea, I feel pretty confident about under 350. Wouldn't be surprised if he went 26/39 for 280 with a few TDs and a pick or two, especially if we get an early lead. I expert Merlins to throw it around the yard Saturday. However, unless Dak creates some broken plays (which he has the ability to do) I don't see him having enough time to make a lot of big, deep throws to your tall WRs. He is going to have to have a lot of patient 8-9 play drives I think, lots of precise 8-13 yard throws.

Agree. That plus turnovers will probably be the deciding factor in whether this is a comfortable 10-17 pt win or a tight one at the end.

He's a damn good QB, and will get some yards. But I'm thinking Dak will get around 250. Total yards around 350. But it wouldn't surprise me if we get at least 1 interception, with the number of attempts he'll have. Our secondary is much better than '13 & '14.

Henry is going to be worn down and Drake is nicked again. Expect Damien Harris to carry the load for the Alabama Elephants

So our defensive line and all of our running backs are just beat to hell from that epic physical war LSU gave us last weekend hu?

I think that Dak will make some plays with his legs, probably hit a few big throws when he breaks contain........but I also think we will hit him a lot (especially if State spreads things out) and if State goes 5 wide and throws a bunch of slants/drags we are going to bat one or two in the air and cause a turnover.

I'm really not sure that going 5 wide is the best way to attack us given the athleticism of our secondary and the defensive line vs 4 OL with no back in for protection. I just don't think that is a feasible recipe for success.

Since you guys like statistics so much, Kelly threw for 340 and Allen threw for 260 AND three ints. I take Prescott and our offense over those guys all day. I see us getting the ball to our big perimeter guys very quickly and letting them run with the football. The Alabama secondary has shown they are not very good tacklers.

Would be interesting to see Bo play a little. Don't think he will, but would love to see him come in and spell Henry at some point.

Based on what, exactly?

quote:

Again, 67 of Kelly's yards were on a ball that bounced off our DB's head.

Allen threw for 176 (not 260), 54 of which were on a meaningless TD with 1:30 to play.

We are the best pass defense in America by every statistic (traditional and advanced stats). I think Dak will get some because he is very good and you have good, big receivers, but I also expect him to have to force a few balls that we pick off.

I'm just not ready to crown this defense king after watching Les Miles run his rb into run stopping defense all night and expect success. The Alabama defense looked absolutely horrible against Ole Miss. The team that was shut out by Florida and couldn't beat Memphis' defense. I just think we need to pump the fricking breaks on this Alabama defense..
