State fans... What's your opinion of Rick Stansbury?

I'm to the point now where I would like for Fox to move on and have Rick take it over. I remember he could recruit and had some really good teams in the past.

He is garbage, you don't want him.

Can recruit well. Can't coach for shite.

He led State to more division/conference championships between 2002-2012 than any team not named Kentucky.
Could never pull it together in the tournament. Really squandered what should have been at least a sweet 16 or elite 8 roster his final few seasons and didn't even make the tourney.
I think he would be a good hire, I'm sure he will learn from any mistakes he may have made and be successful going forward.

I remember his teams being really solid early in this career. It appears his message became stale and he overstayed his tenure. Gotfried has rebounded pretty nicely after his UA days. I think he could do some things in Athens.

He would probably do really well at uga. They have athletes in Georgia that we don't in MS, yet stans always had talent at state. If he hired the right guys around him, it could be really good for uga .

Speaking of gottfried I would hire the old Charlotte coach away from him if I were someone. Great assistant to have

I don't know of anyone in Starkville who dislikes Stans, however most people recognize he had lost control and that it was time to move on. He got a standing ovation when he was honored before the A&M game in Stark this year.

That's because we didn't realize what we had until we experienced the curse of the Double R.

Rick Stansbury = Vince Gill

He's terrible. TERRIBLE. He'll probably be fired in a few weeks. But either way, you definitely don't want him.

it was time for stans to go when state fired him. They just pulled what LSU and bama did and fricked up the hire. Bama looks like they fixed it and LSU doubled down on stupid

He's been insurmountable in Aggy land this year for sure. Is this his 1st season?

He was there last year. I'm pretty sure he was instrumental in recruiting our awful freshmen. He's really no damn good at all. You should look elsewhere.

He is a very good recruiter, and while at State was also good with defense and rebounding.
He never really developed offensive acumen and while we made tournaments, we typically did not perform well in them.
By the end of his tenure at State he was done. He didn't seem to have control of the team and seemed worn down. Maybe his time away and time as an assistant again has rejuvenated him.
State did the right thing in parting ways with him, but completely flopped the subsequent hire.
There was a lot of hate between him and Gotfried at bama though, and that really made the state-bama hoops series fun.

I always liked him. He sold his soul to the devil for Renardo Sidney by keeping him around and by doing so lost control of the program and just couldn't recover from that at MSU. I would hope he learned a valuable lesson from it and I think he could be a good coach for the right program. Won't ever be an elite coach, but a good guy/coach.
