State fans, how high is Nick Fitzgerald's ceiling?

I understand that the guy is a prolific rusher (he absolutely gashed our defense last year, it was embarrassing). He rushed for nearly 1400 yards a year ago, averaging 7.1 yards per carry. That's insane. Not even Cam Newton, Nick Marshall, nor Johnny Manziel (a couple of the best rushing SEC QB's over the past few seasons) averaged 7.1 in a season.

However, when you look past the rushing aspect, he was a 54.3% passer last year, was one of 5 SEC QB's to throw double digit INT's, and averaged a poor 6.7 yards per attempt. To add to that, he just threw 4 interceptions in a spring game.

A SPRING GAME.

Not saying the blame goes completely on Fitzgerald, State's receiving corps is shaky. Fitzgerald just has never seemed like a complete passer to me, heck he would have had 5 picks yesterday had that DB caught the ball right before halftime.

State fans, can Nick take you to the promised land without passing the ball effectively? Or does he need to improve?

Unfortunately, I think Fitz's ceiling is higher than his receiving corps will allow him to climb.
MSU going back to ground & pound + defense (hopefully)

His ceiling is not the roof.

I have no concerns about Mullen improving his passing.

I have concerns about the WR corps not improving his passing.

8'

With a remodel we might be able to vault his ceiling to 12'.

He's Matt Jones with a stronger arm. I think that we will have a very strong running game with Aeris Williams and Nick Gibson beside Fitz in the gun this year. You will have to pick your poison.

He's a TE playing QB. His ceiling is probably Dak Prescott and I'm being generous.

Not sure why you're saying this like an insult. Dak Prescott is a really good qb.

His numbers last year were not dissimilar to Dak's 2013 numbers, as many others have alluded before me, he will go as far as his receivers take him.

As far as the 4 picks in the spring game go, it's difficult for a dual-threat QB to keep defensive backs honest when you aren't allowed to use one of your biggest tools.

Would I have preferred for him to come out and throw perfectly without being able to run? For sure, but I'm not gonna fault the guy for not performing well as a stationary pocket passer when he will literally never play that way in a game.

He's not a very strong passer but he's a great runner. When you take away the ability to run in the spring game you will probably see some bad stats.

Ha, sometimes you just need a pledge for an insulation check

I'm not saying it as an insult?

That was a compliment. I don't think his ceiling is as high as Prescott but the situation is kinda the same. He's more in the mold of a TE than a QB.

Dak isn't a tight end playing qb. Dak is a qb that les miles thought was a fullback. The cowboys don't think he's a tight end by any means. What I'm saying is that the way you worded it makes it sound like you're saying dak isn't a true qb, but a "te" in a qb body and possessing qb arm strength.

It's just not a true statement at all.

It all depends on how hard he wants to work to get better. He has one of the best QB coaches in the country at his disposal.

So you are being generous by saying his ceiling is a guy who just put together the best Rookie season in NFL History?
