South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier said if the SEC wants to be fair, it will do away with permanent cross-divisional foes.

The Head Ball Coach didn’t stop there, either. “Tennessee’s got Alabama, who’s been the best team the last three or four years, and that’s not fair for Tennessee to have to play those guys every year,” Spurrier said. “But I don’t know. Heck, that’s just sort of the way it is. The coaches … we don’t make the rules. We just try to coach our teams the best we can.

College Football is what it is because of rivalry and traditions, we're not gonna piss on that because some of you can't handle playing a good team every year. There was a time when UT was better than UF, and that day will come again.

Bama fans don't see it that way. They claim it's "tradition" when it's really an easy W every year. IMHO

Move UT to West Arky to East. Those two moves takes care of the two biggest rivalries by ensuring that Arkansas and Bama play their rivals every year.

Almost sounds like an underlying shot to UT, saying they're not in 'Bamas league anymore. . And it's easy for Spurrier to say anyway, we have no Western rival so it matters not to us.

The title of the linked ESPN article states:

Les Miles: Do away with permanent foes

And opens with the following:

quote:

LSU coach Les Miles said Wednesday it’s time to do away with permanent cross-divisional opponents in the SEC.

“A key piece for any conference is to allow equal access for any champion,” said Miles, who suggested that a computer should be utilized to select a rotation of two cross-divisional opponents for each team in the league.

a bit down the article Spurrier is brought up....

Spurrier must be an LSU fan. According to the Rant, those are the only people that think that.

Most Bama fans may see it that way but not me. They've slowly been throwing tradition out the window for some time now, just end the rivalries.

:kige:

I have zero interest in watching A&M play South Carolina every year.

The two teams have no history together and I'd rather kill this so-called rivalry game in its infancy.

I don't feel bad for UT because state and everyone else in the west has to play Bama every year as well. Deal with it.

Tennessee doesn't need OBC to knight for them. If they have a problem with playing Bama every year, then they would make it known. That hasn't happened.
