"After losing 45-42 against Tennessee on Nov. 1, he left his postgame press conference without answering a single question and had problems sleeping and remembering the code for his locker and phone numbers later that week. South Carolina’s team psychologist diagnosed him with "acute stress disorder” and prescribed him sleeping pills, according to Spurrier."

South Carolina, Tennessee's best wins since Fulmer as fired.

Everyone knows part of his sudden retirement was the fact he didn't want to lose in Neyland one last time.

Damn right, one of our worst teams of all time (2013 5-7) beat the greatest team in South Carolina history and effectively ended their best shot ever at playing for the natty. I sang Rocky Top throughout the night that day.

I can't believe he admitted this. I mean we knew this already but damn he basically owned it.

I think Georgia 2015 was much bigger. The worst team in Tennessee history beating the best in SCe history in 2013 was quite comical tho imo

Actually our best shot was in 1984, but whatever. Facts.

Don't pretend Spurrier didn't personally possess a certain pride when it came to Tennessee throughout his entire playing/coaching career. The Vols are always going to be the original hometown team in his head. He wasnt going to put himself through a losing farewell in Knoxville.

Literally every team we played last year says they made Spurrier quit.

Argue with them. The list is Kentucky, Mizzou, UGA, and LSU. Have fun.

Yep and if we beat Navy in 1984 we play for a national championship.

Again, facts.

Of course it was personal. One of my favorite character traits of Spurrier is that he can be like a fan sometimes. He takes certain games / opponents more personally and seriously than others.

UT was one of them and I think it actually got to his head in 2013. He 2nd guessed himself the whole way. We called 2 timeouts on a 4th down because he thought about going for it, we opted to just to punt the ball.

Hey psk, that was in 2013. Why are the Vols still rebuilding?

Don't worry I'll wait to read his book, I'm sure there will be a whole chapter explaining all things Tennessee

The ending management of our 2013 game was truly one of the only times in 20 years I saw Spurrier shite the bed himself

We aren't anymore. We started in 2013. It's 2016 now and we are fully loaded and ready to go.
