This topic got lost at the end of that other long thread. Too catch you up. A poster posted the rules about injured players having time to get off the field. The rules as he posted stated that:

IF a player is injured or too tired to play safely he should be allowed time etc.....

I view this as a rule that does not come into effect UNLESS a player is injured. Now it seems to be agreed that everyone does it - but the question is it Legal.

Most think it is.

I say no it is not - the time allowed comes into play because the ref (rules enforcer) is lead to believe the player is injured. If a player is actually not injured he does not have the benefit of the time out.

It got to the point I posed the question:

If a player sid to the ref - hey, I want to fake an injury to slow this down, but I am fine. Can I?

My guess is that the ref would say no. If you are injured we can stop time. If the player did it anyway and told the ref he was fine - the ref in my mind would throw a flag for delay of game - another poster agreed but thought unsportsmanlike conduct.

The bottom line is if the player says he is fine while he is on the ground the ref will call the game. The player has to line up and play.

It is agreed that it is an easy rule to break/cheat/lie however you want to put it - but the debate is whether it is LEGAL TO FAKE AN INJURY TO INVOKE THE INJURY PROVISION OF THE RULES.

Nobody knows the answer - I feel pretty strong about my stance but I don't know.

Basically you can sum it up my answering that question to the ref by a player on the field, lying down and asking the ref, can I get an injury time out even though I am fine? What would ref say:

Please keep this about the rules - this has no team bias even if certain team fans feel a little guilt. All teams do it. Its team neutral.

while I agree that faking like your injured is a pussy move the HUNH offense isn't going anywhere and shouldn't...makes the games interesting. Whats going to be more interesting is if there is a death during a football game due to heat exhaustion. then shite is going to get real

The fact that there is no way to prove how hurt you are at that very second, lets you know there is nothing anyone can do about it. The ref can't say, you do not have a cramp. And the players dont make money, so what are we gonna do, fine them?

Jesus. Y'all are obsessed with this shite. There is no specific rule. It could fall under unsportsmanlike but it would be very subjective.

That means you agree with me Luke. The only way the ref could know is if the player told him. The player says he is hurt. If the player is lying, he is getting away with breaking the rules.

We already know it is easy to get away with it. The question is whether or not it is LEGAL to FAKE injury to obtain the time benefits of the player Injury rules.

Give it up... If a kid is laying on the ground play will be stopped. There's no way to determine if a player is faking or not. Every individual has a different threshold of pain. No referee or conference is gonna take on the legal responsibility of determining if a "down" player is faking or not on the field...

HUNH as an "O" tactic will lead to fake "D" injuries as a "D" response... nothing can be done about it...

Tigerdrew - it seems you agree it is illegal - but are opining as to what the penalty is right?

This will be an issue before long. I think discussing it is fun. I am kind of a nerd.

This is actually an unknown that I believe will be at some point addressed by rules committee. Getting opinions is interesting.

We are ahead of the questions they will be discussing in 2-4 years IF the hurry up keeps working.

Then yes it is legal. This has been happening for so long that its just part of the game, and the refs will agree.

If you are faking a injury illegally, then you are doing it wrong.

Couldn't blame that solely on HUNH tho, if, God forbid, that ever happened.

It's not difficult. It's not illegal. There is no rule in place right now. They didn't ban the hug in boxing did they? It's a tactic used within the rules. Until the fricking rule changes its legal.
