More power to him. I can't imagine anyone enjoying the actual physical and mental torture that is RASP and Ranger School.

I have a friend who wants to do it for a second time

Guy lost 40lbs and looked about 10 years older after, the first time

He could have grinded it out as a b list player, but decided to cut it off sooner than later and start a new career

Great story, and he has now done two things in his life I never will - play college/NFL football and join the military.

Honestly though, reading that article, makes me think he doesn't know what he wants to do with his life. He quit football because he was tired of it, even when making money to play it. He joined the Army, but doesn't think that will be his career.

I hope he finds his true happiness, wherever that may be.

Good for him that he decided to do what he wanted. If it were me, I would have dealt with not liking my job because of the potential money to be made in a 4-5 year stint in the NFL. But again, good for him if that's what he wanted to do.

I've done a lot of engineering work at Eglin AFB and the outlying auxiliary airfields including the Special Ops areas: Aux Airfield #3 (Duke Field), Aux Airfield #6 (Camp Rudder/Biancur Field), and Aux Airfield #9 (Hurlburt Field). Camp Rudder is where the final phase of the Ranger training goes on. They drop the Ranger trainees off in the middle of the swamp with minimal supplies and they have to make their way back to the Camp (which is also in the middle of nowhere).

The Eglin AFB range is huge and has some unknown features. There is also a large space radar located in the middle of nowhere. It looks like half of a football stadium and the radiation it puts out kills the grass in front of it and will kill birds that fly too close...

I hope that he builds up the courage to go through Ranger School, it will be a huge boost to his confidence and to his military career/options... earned my tab 17 years ago and it made a positive impact on my life.

Eglin is a great place to be stationed. You can avoid the tourists during the season and enjoy the area the rest of the year.

I saw pt studs, guys the could run and ruck all day, pull the pin because of the water portion of the course. And if you can swim its not hard.
