No thanks to any of them in the SEC.

Edit: Good info thought. It really puts in perspective of how small they are compared to the SEC.

Here is where BYU's attendance would have ranked in the SEC, ACC, Big XII in 2010 (using current day alignment)

2010
SEC : #12/14 (ahead of Ole Miss, MSU)
ACC : #4/12 (behind Clemson, FSU, VT)
BXII : #3/10 (behind Texas, OU)

They'd be an upper echelon attendance leader in every league but the SEC and Big Ten.

ECU has finished ranked twice in their entire history. They were last ranked 9th in 1991. They're not even close to SEC ready.

Nope - but they would seem to be with that group of 5-6 who are in the next to move up a level group from non-P5 (UConn, UCF, USF, Memphis, ECU, Houston).

They have great support for a pretty mediocre to above average program.

Another one who smaller conferences should pay attention to is Appalachian State. They have averaged > 25,000 a year for like 5-10 straight years now (including their years in 1AA). Another state school in a big, growing state that is becoming bigger and bigger.

Let the Big 12, Pac 12, and ACC pull from the non power 5. We should be pulling from other power 5 if we choose to expand.

Which makes them the obvious 11th team for the Big 12. The question is who is 12 and none of those attendance figures make it obvious. I think then you have to start looking at program revenues as a comparison.

No doubt, totally agree.

My list, if we decide on it, would be (in no order)
- NC State
- Virginia Tech
- Oklahoma

That's really about it. I'd add UVA and UNC but that is never going to happen, they'd join the BIG if the ACC collapsed.

Yep - I agree. Do you Texas folks think they will just end up grabbing one of the Texas schools for #12 (Houston I assume or SMU)?

Gotta be Houston. Adds next to no new viewers but they keep the geographic integrity and the Cougars have Baylor/TCU potential

Those are basically who I want.

UNC & UVA would be my top choice. I would take UNC/Duke if that is what it took to get North Carolina. Plus that makes a great basketball addition.

OU would be my choice only after getting shut down by UVA, VT, NS ST, UNC, & Duke.

For some reason in Texas conference realignment/expansion and politics are intertwined historically. If that is still the case UH has a shot. If not I would bet they are blackballed.

If I was the Big 12 the obvious choices are Cincy (best geographic bridge to WV) and BYU. At 14 the next best are Memphis (Fex Ex sponsorship would be worth a ton) and probably UCF.

Tcu and Baylor struggle to get 40,000

So attendance isn't everything I guess...

Thats a big negative when the whole point of expansion is to try to keep up with the Joneses on money.

I think the Big 12 learned its lesson adding TCU over Louisville but we will see.

I know nobody adds teams based on what "feels right" or "seems to make sense", but BYU seems like a good fit. UConn obviously feels like an insane fit. Outside of the Texas schools (due to the old SWC stuff), I can't really see a "good fit" add there.

Examples, the last rounds of realignment, I'd define Good Fit/Bad Fit as

Good Fit
Colorado to Pac XII
Utah to Pac XII
TCU to Big XII
Texas A&M to SEC

Meh Fit
Nebraska to Big Ten
Missouri to SEC

Bad Fit
Rutgers to Big Ten
Maryland to Big Ten
West Virginia to Big XII

Yea, I think UVA/UNC/Duke have a pretty hardened view of the SEC as beneath them academically and culturally and see themselves as much better fits in the B1G. I doubt they would ever join the SEC.
