They looked very sloppy tonight, but the defense looked much better than they did last year. If they can clean up the mistakes, I think they could win 8-9 games in the weak SEC East.

Ehhhh they look like a 6-6 or 7-5 type team. If they woulda lost this one, they should have been seriously worried about whether they would make a bowl.

Our qb just needs some more experience. Running for 250 holding the football for 35min and making stops lead me to the conclusion that we can win 8-9 games

2 more easy OOC wins, Clemson is a possible win in a rivalry game, Kentucky, Vandy, and Florida should be wins. Then an upset over LSU, aTm, UT or Mizzou has them looking at possibly being an 8 win team.

For them to get to 8 after what you just said they would have to upset Clemson and one of the other guys. They don't get an upset and they're at 7-5 or 6-6.

I see them as being a 6-6 or 7-5 team. To me winning this game was pretty much needed for a bowl bid

At best 7-5. Probably another 6-6 season though.

They looked like a 7-5, 6-6, or 5-7 football team.

About what you expect out of USCE this year

Man, I'm done trying to predict USCe off of opening games, last year they looked horrible week 1, then kicked a good Georgia team's arse. Who knows, honestly at this point I think it comes down to how annoyed and or angry Steve is the week before the game.

If he's chill and thinking about his Sunday tee time, he'll defer to his coordinators and he could get blown out by a mediocre Tamu team, if he's pissed off enough to call all the plays himself, well that's when you get things like Stephen Garcia posting a perfect Passer rating against a Saban defense or a beat down of UGA.

Whatever he does he saved Florida 3 times first as a player, then as a coach, then finally as a Gamecock.

I will say this though in 20+ years he's never gone worse than 3-5 in conference.

Lost an entire side of the OL, lost a 5th-yr QB and 3 WRs including 2 seniors. Replaced them with a 3rd-yr Soph. who had a total of about 5 snaps in college games before tonight, plus Cooper who is great but then a bunch of RS and true freshmen WRs.

Considering all that plus this first game was at a neutral site locale, as well as how most of USC's season-openers look even with veteran leaders returning, I thought it could've gone worse.

Our defense looked much better: in 2013 when UNC came to Williams-Brice, we had fewer sacks in that game and gave up more points, and we had Clowney playing then. We still need to clean up the tackling and had some busts on assignments, but these can be improved on with continued coaching...

On offense Mitch started pretty shaky, which should be expected. He started out 0-5 on passing and ended going 9-17 the rest of the way, with no turnovers. Things like delay of games and false starts/offsides are things that are common with new players in season-openers, and are usually things that can be improved on.

Our run game was fairly dominant when we committed to it - especially in the 2nd half - and I have no doubt we'll rely on it more as the season progresses, which should ease the pressure on Mitch a bit. Also I feel our depth behind Mitch at QB is also at least dependable, so it's not like a Mitch or nobody else situation, and if Mitch needs to sit a game or two IMO we can start Orth or Scarnecchia with little drop-off of production in the passing game, until Mitch or someone else figures it all out....

I predicted 8-4 before the season, and I'll stick with that. obviously a few lucky bounces this way could mean 9 or even 10 wins, and few unlucky bounces that way could mean 7 or 6 wins, but I think 8 is a good baseline number.

I could see that DL developing with the young bucks, plus those two LBs should be better than last year, but man this team isn't like that team last year. They had a 5th year senior QB (similar to Blake Sims at Bama) who broke the school record for passing yards at 3564. That's 505 more than Garcia in 2010 (now 4th in history), and 358 more than the previous leader, who accomplished it in 1987. They also lost 4 of their top 5 pass catchers (obviously they bring back the best one).

They need to establish the run game and If Mitch doesn't improve through the first six games, they've got to try Nunez or Orth, or both.

yeah, UGA and LSU look like the only teams they play where they will be clearly outclassed from a talent perspective. And the difference is no so great that you should just write them off

UNC is a tough & gritty team; last night's win was no joke or fluke

I think that the 'Cocks will at a minimum get some payback against Aggie

8 or 9 wins looks realistic. My original prediction was 6-6

Hope I am wrong

Good assessment.

We beat UK next week and come into Athens 2-0, anything can happen.
