You can see by recent recruiting rankings that Spurrier has either gotten complacent or that the kids are simply not buying into him anymore. Couple that with defensive woes last season and a tough as hell schedule

It's pretty cool that we can still have a top 25 recruiting class and folks will think that's not good for South Carolina.

We've come a long way, bros.

No doubt South Carolina has had unprecedented success during Spurrier's tenure. However, ranked 38th in recruiting rankings right now for the 2016 class, and zero players drafted in last years NFL draft. I think they are headed back into the cellar. Sorry, I don't hate South Carolina, just my honest thoughts.

As long as it's a cool and comfy cellar. Columbia is "famously hot" but this summer sucks major d.

I think it's quite telling if usc loses to Kentucky again if their finished.

It's July... wait until signing day to assess our recruiting rankings. We just picked up a few 4 stars in the past couple weeks, it's looking okay right now.

We had 3 players picked in the last draft. AJ Cann went in the 3rd, Mike Davis in the 4th, and Corey Robinson in the 7th. Yeah not that great but not zero.

Oh really, now?

2015 initial draft

49ers draft free agent Dylan Thompson

There have been a few more picked up as free agents as well since these articles were published.

Seriously, I think a lot of people are sleeping on us..which is fine. It fuels our guys and motivates them to shut everybody the hell up.

Our D seems very excited about the new packages that Hoke is going to be using. They've been in the weight room offseason and are more than ready to redeem themselves from last year's debacle. They also seem to have gelled and this is always a good thing to see. The guys from last year have some experience under their belts now and we have some solid players that will be starting this year as well. You may say they are unproven, but there are a few who were highly ranked as JUCO's.

While there is a question at QB, we have solid coaches to work with these guys in Mangus and Spurrier. Other than the obvious ppl returning, Mitch, Orth, and Scharnecchia, we have Lorenzo Nunez who was heavily recruited out of high school and will not be redshirted. Additionally, there is always Pharoh Cooper who was used succesfully in the Wildcat last year and played some QB in high school. Cooper is a beast as a WR as well as kick returner. Spurrier is also high on Deebo Samuels, a freshman WR, and has said he believes Deebo will have a breakout year. We have a solid stable of RB. Our kicker, Elliot Fry, is proven as solid, reliable and precise.

TL;DR: Be prepared to swallow your words. We're going to surprise a lot of ppl.

I have a lot of respect for south Carolina. They always play tough and beat Georgia every year.

I think as long as Spurrier is at USCe, they will be competitive.

I would NEVER overlook Spurrier...just ask any UGA fan these past few seasons..

Spurrier has made USCe a thorn in UGA's side, thats for sure.

this kind of talk holds no water whatsoever. Every team rants and raves that there team has been in the weight room during the off season. And things like "they have gelled" probably just stems from quotes from coaches/players who are trying to give the team confidence going into the season. Just for reference Every single year every single coach and player including Les Miles says this season's O-line will be the best we have ever had.

steve spurrier is one of my all time favorite coaches. hell, I loved him as a player at florida.

but I think he's done. he's done a lot at usc and I hope they find a good coach to replace him. it's a tough place to recruit, esp having to share the state with another power team.

Incorrect. I've talked to several different players that have told me this directly.

They are definitely not close to the same team as few years back. But the East is still pretty weak overall so wouldn't be surprised for them to have a decent season.

You seem intent on not listening to anything the Gamecock fans in this thread are trying to tell you about their team..

You said you wanted reasons as to why some of us think we'll be okay and here is a poster giving you half a page worth. Another poster gave his opinion on the 1st page as well.

Yet you've dismissed or ignored both. Those are the reasons. Are they not good enough for you?
