Defensive minded fans close your eyes

Any team that can put up 72 on anyone is concerning. Will be interesting to see if our offense can keep up against a not-so-good defense. We did well against NC State, but our defense is going to need to step up because Mizzou looked pretty damn good on offense.

I imagine it will be a shite show, but I feel like we will win. We could easily lose though.

I'm taking USC for sure. Mizzou played a 3A high school team.

Doubtful. Mizzou gonna lose a bunch this year. That defense is the worst I've ever seen. And they turned the ball over like three times. 3 turnovers = South Carolina by 21.

Mo. State's DBs couldn't get within 5 yards of Miz's WRs. They also couldn't defend the screen pass at all. SC's defense may not be the best but they should be able to manage that.

Lock still overthrows like a mofo on deep balls (one of the reasons it stayed close for so long, imo) while occasionally hitting a splash play.

Honestly, while NCST is perennially overhyped to open the year they're a better team than Miz. Now if you're secondary is really bad then you might have issues but you have a better DL than Mo. St. and that will pressure the QB, stuff more runs, and make things harder for them in the passing game.

Our defense is so bad, it really doesn't matter.

Mizzou's offense will need to score at least 40 to give Mizzou a chance. They could do that as the offense is for real. DL looked pretty dang good and sure he may have missed a throw or two, but he was also throwing several darts out there and dropped in a few nice throws on deeper routes. Crockett is the real deal running the ball and the receivers, both TE's & WR's looked good.

Springfield is well, way below Mizzou. No way in hell should they have scored 20 on Mizzou much less 43. Only thing I'll say on that is they're coached by a former long time Mizzou assistant and they have several former Mizzou players on staff. They all know Barry Odom really well.

That said, Mizzou's defense is truly the worst I've ever seen, so SC shouldn't have any problem scoring over 50 on Mizzou.

Early prediction:

SC 56, Mizzou 41

Missouri State is an awful, awful football program. It would be extremly concerning to me if they put up 43 on our defense. I didn't think SC looked that great either but they should be able to handle Mizzou.

I rewatched our game. We played like shite in the secondary (duh), but my point is it was blown coverages and missed tackles. Technically issues that can be cleaned up, but will they?

Our offense is legit. OL is good. Crockett is just a flat out beast. Our WR corps is fast and deep. Our TE are athletic and deep. Lock is a pretty good trigger man for all of it.

Right now I'd say

SC somewhere in the 40s
Mizzou somewhere in the 30s

We need this game desperately

Consider who our offense went up against. You certainly won't see that against a legit D, and yes Scar can be considered legit compared to Mo St. That was the most atrocious defensive effort by Mizzou I have ever seen. Unless they figure things out, Mizzou may not win 1 conference game.

Do you want to see South Carolina set offensive records, because watching this game is how you see South Carolina set offensive records.

I think some of the issues on our D might improve as the season progresses, or might not. It's hard to think they'll improve to anything serviceable by next week.

South Carolina will score a lot.

Mizzou should (maybe) score a lot.

Might be fun to watch, probably a shite show.

It's hard not to have an emotional reaction to what we saw yesterday and get pissed off. I was in the hang Odom by his balls camp during the game yesterday. Pathetic, embarrassing all of that. Upon rewatching though, it is stuff that can be fixed. The defense played much better as the game went on. For example, they had negative rushing yards after the first quarter. We had 12 TFL. They had one scoring drive and like 100 yards in the second half.

If we don't fix this issues, Bentley and his WR are going to eat us up. If we do, we can win this game.

Any team that can throw the ball, will be a problem forMizzou. I think we can be decent against the run, but I don't expect much for this team again this year.

I was fairly pleased with SC's OLine play yesterday against one of the better DLines in the country. I mean NC State's DLine is just incredible. They've either got a great DLine coach or they snuck up on everyone recruiting DLinemen three and four years ago. I looked this morning and saw on NFL.com where all four of their DLine starters are projected to go in the first three rounds with Chubb (Nick's cousin from Chubbtown) expected to be a top ten pick, higher than Nick.

But our OLine held up well. No one is going to run the ball against that line. NC State is going to have a good season.

With that said we're going to be able to run the ball against Mizzou I would expect. And we'll play more ball control to keep the ball away from Mizzou's offense if possible.

Defensively ... our defense is not nearly as bad as the stats from yesterday's game might suggest. NC State had over 300 yards in the first half mainly because they are very very experienced, full of Juniors and seniors who started for them last year ... and they ran the HUNH dink and dunk to perfect yesterday - in the first half. They've got an outstanding QB who was getting the best of us until we hurt him, and two outstanding WRs, including their Samuel, who will play on Sundays.

Mizzou will test us the same way with the dink and dunk stuff but I expect Mizzou to try to burn us with the stop and go stuff too ... that worries me a bit. The SC secondary matured a lot during the course of the game yesterday. I think I read where we played five true freshmen in the secondary and at LB yesterday. You could see them getting better and more confident on every series. I told my Son this morning that for them to survive 99 plays on defense yesterday .... might have been the best thing that could have happened to them. By the end of the game several freshmen we're making big time plays.

Our punter did not have a great game but he still averaged 46.5 yards per punt in six tries. He out kicked the coverage once and that cost us a 30 yard return on a 70 yard punt I think they said ... coverage was good other than that. PR was good except one bonehead play by Lammons that shifted momentum but we overcame that thankfully.

We were 5 of 7 KOs in the endzone and KO coverage was outstanding on the other two. KR was better than average it goes without saying. After Deebo took the first one to paydirt they kicked to AJ the rest of the day and he did very well.

We never attempted a FG against NC St ... we will against Mizzou.

I thought our halftime adjustments on D were outstanding.

I thought the play calling by Roper was outstanding ... although we rarely used our TEs ... we will against Mizzou.

So I think we win the special teams battled at Mizzou.

Mizzou is going to score points. Key to SC winning is to keep the ball out of their hands and, when they do have it force turnovers. Get pressure on their QB, he's pretty damn good if you give him time. I do believe our DLine wins the battle in the trenches against Mizzou's OLine.

Offensively SC has got to establish a running game, control the clock, keep the penalties down and don't turn the ball over.

I don't think this game is going to be as high scoring as some others believe it might be. I believe SC wins the time of possession by eight minutes or more and I believe SC wins the turnover battle by a considerable margin. I also believe SC comes away with a half dozen sacks against Mizzou. Boom has got his defense buying-in and gaining confidence. You could see it transpiring during the course of the game yesterday.

I am really excited to see how our defense does against Mizzou's offense. IMHO they are going to surprise some people and put to rest all of this "SC's Defense sucks" nonsense from the first game stats.

That performance yesterday, especially by the young guys, was one of the gutsiest I can remember in a long time.

SC only has 75 scholarship players on their roster right now and 70% of those are freshmen or sophomores. We're very young but man these kids seem to love playing for Boom.

I'm not sure where Mizzou stands on experience comparatively?
