You are undoubtedly the voice of reason and one of the most objective posters I've seen here or on any other forum, despite your affiliation with LSU. I wish that I could say the same for myself, sometimes.

To you -

Houston up to Tyler is going to be Sumlin's battleground, for sure.

No but in college sports generally the douche fans never attended while the actual alums are good people.

So I'm a douche but the fans that pour beer or throw beer bottles on opposing player's are good people? I've seen so many fans of other schools that attended the University be rude on gameday. EVERY University has this happen!

BTW, I had two choices, either go to Bama or enlist and I chose to serve my country but that doesn't make me any less of a fan.

Not real sure how going or not going to a University has any affect on whether or not someone should cheer for that school's sports teams.

While I (if you know my story) obviously didn't go to Auburn, and cherish my Auburn fanhood, I know that there is a certain part missing on account that I didn't go there.

I grew up all Auburn and only pulled for Auburn. However, between in-state tution, the HOPE scholarship and superior academics, I went to Georgia Tech rather than Auburn.

Did I stop being an Auburn fan? No. You can't change a lifetime of who you invest yourself in (my mom's side of the family all went to Auburn, thus my connection). However, having attended Georgia Tech, I know that there is a certain connection I have to that team that I can't ever have with Auburn.

I think it's obvious by me being here that I put much more energy into continuing my Auburn fanhood, but there is always something special about your classmates being the ones on the field. That is why I'm not afraid to admit that even though Auburn is a first-tier passion to me, that I can never have the same connection to them as the other posters here who graduated from there.

Doesn't mean I don't love Auburn. Just means I know my place.

I did not even realize LSU had a fan base until 2003. Talk about sidewalk fans!

Every fan base has a rise when their team starts winning. Are you saying LSU did not pick up a couple of sidewalk fans with the programs improvement under Saban? If so, you may need to check your own knowledge!

Sorry! I do understand that LSU had fans long before Saban got there! Long before I was born... Heck its the SEC........ We all have sidewalk fans... To tell you the truth,,, they are very important to the passion of college football in the Southeast! Would you not agree?

Considering that LSU is the only major college program in the State of Louisiana and the vast majority of the citizens of Louisiana did not graduate from LSU, I would venture to say that LSU has more sidewalk fans than Alabama.

I'm going to repeat this since it is logical, makes complete sense, and was therefore ignored.

Of course. They watch the games on TV that produces these contracts in the hundreds of millions of dollars. I joined the AF at 17 and when getting out, had to go to Mobile so graduated from USA. But growing up in BR obviously a LSU fan always. I don't think anyone really has an issue with fans that didn't attend said University but fair-weather types, of which non-alum seem to dominate, probably due to lack of affiliation. Ultimately, 'side walk' fans are the reason HC's are multimillionaires and facilities get upgraded..TV money.

This is the dumbest argument to me. Every school has sidewalk fans. The more successful the program historically would probably bring more of these fans. People always relate sidewalk fans to rednecks but this isn't always the case. There are a lot of sidewalk fans that are not redneck at all. The argument you had to attend the school to be a fan is ridiculous.

But anyways, an LSU fan talking about sidewalk fans and making fun of another fan base is funny to me. Did these guys attend LSU???
