When was the last time a team not ranked in preseason attained #1 status in both polls.
MSU and Auburn, I wish that game would have gone on and on.
I think the Barn keeps Malzahn, but nobody stays in Starkville.

I'm impressed with the time span too. We're only half way through the season. Only time will tell how long they can sustain it.

I also think Auburn 2010 started season unranked.

Congrats on those 11-2 seasons no one will remember in 5 years.

I don't think they ever hit #1. May have been Alabama and FSU that kept them from that. But that was my first thought as well.

You're right. They were ranked behind Bama going in to the Iron Bowl weren't they?

Missouri in 2007 got to #1 in the AP, after being unranked in the preseason poll.
They never reached #1 in the Coaches, however.

AU didn't hit #1 last season.

In 2008, Alabama was unranked in the preseason Coaches poll, before eventually rising to the top spot.
They were #24 in the preseason AP, though.

Oklahoma was unranked in the AP poll before the 2000 season, before eventually attaining the #1 ranking in both polls.
However, they were the 20th-ranked team in the Coaches Poll before the season.
So basically, it hasn't happened in a long arse time.

The last time a head football coach left Starkville without getting fired/retired was 1955
