I don't wear goggles. I've frequently criticized Saban for personnel, coaching and the way he disciplines. I've made it clear I don't know how this will play out, but I think it's pretty reasonable to think that the floor is pretty high and that given the level of trust from Belichik and Saban there must be something other than bad offensive stats with terrible QB's to this guy.

I'll tell you that if we'd hired George Godsey I would have had a total meltdown.

I honestly just don't see it as much different than any other cycle of coaches taking promotions outside of the Kiffin stuff. And, well, everyone knew that was possible with Lane.

a less than average OC hire

Remains to be seen. Many said that when Saban hired McElwain and that worked out pretty well...the Kiffin hire was ridiculed here on the Rant as well. Daboll might not work out but Belichick thought enough of him to hire him twice and reportedly he was Josh McDaniels' heir apparent...the proof is in the puddin' so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt until I see the results. As we open with FSU next season, we might know something fairly quickly...

Yea - I'll add - I'm not saying Daboll will be awesome. I don't have any idea. He could end up being bad at developing QBs, a poor play caller and not suited for college football.

But, I think that even if that is the case, we still have an average offense but end up losing some games because we can't make plays to win them. That's what our talent level, head coach and defense do for us. There's a chance his results in the NFL weren't because his QB's were dogshite but are because he's bad at coordinating an offense.

I hope Daboll is great, but there is definitely a chance he's meh.

I'm with AU4real35. An Auburn fan would know questionable coaching hires when they see it.

Don't know if sarcasm, but we are a very realistic group when it comes to coaching hires. We are not scared to ridicule our coaches or coaching hires.

but his OC hire is very questionable

Bama won a national championship with Doug Nussmeier who turns out is a garbage OC.

How? Kiffin moved on just like everyone thought he would though it was one game earlier than anticipated. All the others, especially Sark, received promotions elsewhere.
Fans like you said these same things after the 2014 season.

Scared to admit it? How about you aren't hearing it because there is nothing to say. This is wishing and hoping by fans like you and it smells like fear slick. Saban loses coaches every year. Everybody wants his staff in hopes that some of the greatness rubbed off on them. You guys should be concerned. We have no reason to be concerned. We may have another down year but a down year for us is winning the SEC and losing in the playoffs. Think about it barner.

I also disagree that "bad decisions" cost us the national championship. We lost to a really good team because we had a true freshman QB that hit a wall, we couldn't convert 3rd downs and Clemson eventually made us pay. I don't think Kiffin would have been any better.

Your running back broke his leg and the game changed. Had that not happened, Bama wins quite easily imo...

I am honestly excited about the return to a more traditional style of Alabama offense if that is what this hire is indicative of. How good he will be only time will tell.

There's only one thing Saban can do at Bama that would concern me and that day will come when he decides he is no longer the HC there.

Best recruiter ever? Probably yes.

Best actual coach ever? Definitely no.

When you see the various threads on Alabama topics that come from this direction, you just got to shake your head and thank God that you're an Alabama fan and not one of "them".

I'm just saying that Saban has seemed to have full control, but right before the championship into the offseason there's a small sign of instability that I haven't seen since he arrived. Bama fans won't see it and can't admit it.

I thought about trying to make a pithy comment in response. Instead, I'll just simply say that your head isn't screwed on straight and leave it at that.
