He's 63. He has lymphoma.
The guy wants to live the rest of his life in relaxation, and I don't blame him. College football is a 24/7 job 9 months out of the year.
I wish he would've stayed longer, but I respect his decision. God bless Gary Pinkel.

Man some of you guys are classless. It was health reasons but I also think the termoil going on Mizzou campus might have been, I said "might" turning point. He did say it was treatable and that his body was responding very well. He looks to be in very good health otherwise and somebody within the conference stated last week he looked good and full of energy. So who knows

He helped get the president fired. That's definitely part of his legacy.
And there's no way he retires before the end of the year if it wasn't for that shitshow. It's not like he's dying. There weren't that many games left. He just had to gtfo.

Pinkel was cleared by his doctor to coach this year. Of course the shitshow up there caused him to announce he had had enough.
