So why did the SEC rivalries never cultivate any notable trophies?

I mean, yeah LSU-Arky has the boot and UF-UGA has the Oar. But neither are that prominent or recognized.
Why did rivalry trophies primarily develop in the North and out West?

because we value conference championships and national championships more?

It should be flipped - the loser has to tote that nasty thing around for a year.

southern football, collectively, wasn't as prominent in the media during the early days of college football.
i think john heisman at gt was the first to do anything against a northern team in 1917. hell, mighta been 1918. idr.

Still, Southern teams don't need Northern media to come up with rivalry trophies. Just wondering why we never made any back in the old days.

Kentucky and Tennessee had a cool one, the Beer Barrel, which they retired because OMG ALCOHOL!!
There's also a big nice one for the Iron Bowl but it's not presented on the field so it's not very well known.

Tennessee and Kentucky used to have the Beer Barrel, but it was discontinued in 1998, after a UK player was killed in a drunk driving accident.

While I wish they'd bring it back, when you have players die in an alcohol related incident I can understand the reaction. It should've been temporary though.
And it was pretty cool.

Didn't they just recently do the oar? To distract from "world's largest outdoor cocktail party" name they were trying to get away from?

The sec could have a trophy like the Stanley Cup. Players could bring it to parties, drink beer out of it, etc. Just pray the Aggies never get a hold of it.

The Oar began in 2010 I think. It's a really cool trophy/idea, being an oar carved from an old Cyprus in the Okefenokee swamp that straddles the GA-FL line. But it lacks the history of other famous trophies.
And the WLOCP will always be the name of that game, I don't give a flying frick what the administrations want to call it.
