taken from the SC board.
I don't think USC will have as hard of a time as UTK did after Dooley was fired. The program has been stable for a decade, has money, has massive infrastructure improvements, and is one of only a handful of high-profile jobs open in the off-season.
Did I miss something?

South Carolina has certainly come a long way in terms of improving its perception if Spurrier leaves.

They will get a good to decent coach whenever Steve decides to hang it up.

Are you trying to say South Carolina isn't a high profile job?

Would you disagree? It isn't UGA, but it's clearly a high profile job...

No, he probably isn't going anywhere; but its hard to see us getting much better on our current trajectory. Wishful thinking.

No I'm not saying South Carolina isn't a high profile job. I just missed the part about the job being open at the end of the season.

Gotcha.

Nah, there has been no indication, actually HBC has said otherwise. So, we probably have a few more years of what we saw Saturday, the 90's are back....

Spurrier was asked after the game last weekend if it was his last trip to Sanford and he said no.

But of course, that doesn't mean much.

Hatin' arse Spurrier planning on hitting the links in Athens and taking a trip down memory lane to Sanford while he's there

The downfall has been very quick. I wasn't naïve enough to think we could continue to have 11-win seasons every year, but damn, I didn't think we would fall this fast. We are staring 4-8 in the face, just two years removed from three straight 11-win seasons.

I am beginning to think that this is Spurrier's last year. He has done great things for SC and has taken us to levels that we only dreamed of, but when its time, its time. The program is in far better shape than it was when he arrived, so he really has nothing left to prove. We owe him a lot.

It's all relative. I don't see it as "high profile" but it will be a quality job that will attract some good applicants when it does open up.

If high profile means top 15 job in the country then no it isn't.

If it means a top 25 job then yes it probably is.

Depends on how long SC lets Spurrier deplete the roster before he retires as to how many candidates view it as a very attractive job.

The talent disparity from 2013-2015 USC teams is shocking.

Spurrier has told a High School recruit that if he comes to South Carolina that he will stay for 6 more years.

So, if we land that guy, then I guess we're guaranteed 6 more years unless Spurrier's fired or gets sick or something.

At it's best it's top 15. 2 years ago, it was a top 15 job IMO.

He learned his lesson from actually being honest last year. He knows he can't promise that anymore and I don't blame him for still saying it to recruits but this means nothing about how long he'll be there.

I think he finds a way to get you all to 6-6 again this year and comes back for one more ride that is an announced "last season" next year.

That gives you all a full year to scan the coaching market and I think during that time Charlie Strong and Texas will part ways and he'll come back to the Gamecocks.
