In 2014 week 9 the AP Poll had...

1. Mississippi State
2. Florida State
3. Alabama
4. Auburn

and Ole miss was ranked 7th

The Coaches Poll had

1. Mississippi State
2. Florida State
3. Alabama
4. Auburn

and Ole Miss was ranked 9th

The CFP poll came out for the first time that week and had...

1. Mississippi State
2. Florida State
3. Auburn
4. Ole Miss

and Alabama was ranked 6th

So, doesn't this kinda blow a hole in that Alabama Media Darling Theory of why they got put in the top 4?

Ole Miss and Auburn were playing that weekend. Eerily similar to what is happening this week with Bama v. LSU.

Have no issue with the rankings. They're generating excitement and driving revenue.

I think that's why they did it both years, to start a big buzz and have something to talk about.

You have a good point. And the rankings do not matter until the last ones.
If ... And it's a big if.... Bama wins out as well as Ole miss.... As well as.....
Any other P5 champion and or ND having 1 loss or less... They are both out.

But I think it plays out , and hopefully it does, BAMA/LSU winner wins out as well as UF, so winner of SECCG is pretty much a guaranteed 1-3 seed.

And here's the actual AP site's poll from 2014, week 9:

https://collegefootball.ap.org/poll/2014/9

Clearly shows Ole Miss was #3 in AP and Auburn was #5.

CFP ranked Auburn #3 and Ole Miss #4.

Weeeellll, sorta kinda yes and no.

Ole Miss was ranked higher in the CFBP poll at that juncture last year largely because of their victory over Bama.

But, this year right now, there are a lot more teams that feel they can lay claim to or deserve the #4 spot over Bama, (or at least be ranked a lot higher than they are now...) than at this point last year.

And Bama got a big bump by having 1 first place vote also...

The wikipedia page is calling that week 8. Look at the dates. The CFP rankings didn't come out that week.

Why is everyone getting so upset about something that will change this week-end one way or the other?
I think Bama fans were just as shocked as everyone else, and it really doesn't mean anything at this point in the season.
