All these new rules are ruining a great sport. Buster Posey getting ran over has led us to this shite. Let the players decide the game on the field. Oh and he was f@ckin' out, and every former baseball player knows it.

[quote] So did FL catcher block plate illegally or not? quote: so he must occupy his position to receive the throw It all boils down to this. He could have been 1' closer to the mound and received the throw. Instead he planted his leg in the base path or close enough to where the ump thought it was obstruction.
Exactly.
Exactly.

Except that the ump didn't call obstruction.
He was out. The call was blown. shite happens.

An "off" throw would have been one that led the catcher up the 3B line. That throw was accurate and could have been caught by the catcher without the catcher blocking more thAn 80% of the plate/baseline. It's a hard call because most umpires have been raised in the era of " if he's in your way, bowl him over."
The sport can be played and enjoyed without football or rugby like plays at home plate.
I'm not a big Baseball fan either way. Games take too long.

Back to the way it was? What are you talking about, catchers have always been allowed to block plate.

My take-
old rules, he's out. Also, the runner could legitimately blown him up and nothing would be called, and if he drops the ball, he's safe.
new rules- he's safe due to obstruction. Catcher set up in the direct basepath, in the batter's box. Also, if the runner blows him up for being in the way, he's ejected.
Rules were changed to eliminate collisions and injuries. The catcher was trying to take advantage of the "you can't blow him up" rule, and I'm pretty sure the ref told him something about that when he pitched a fit.

You frickers don't know how to baseball, the catcher made a clean and legal play and the ump got it wrong.
