First game was the coaches word. I think they learned there lesson though, put em in Coach Sumlin.

They were initially suspended for A GAME. THE GAME PICKED HAPPENED TO BE the opener against La-Tech. That game was moved so he picked a different game date

What kind of punishment is it really if you're playing the "suspended when it's convenient" game?

Maybe he didn't want them to have a harsher punishment than being suspended from an OOC game.

And why does gatorfan care anyway? Y'all should be confident in beating us regardless, shouldn't you?

Yeah, 2 no names won't help you beat Florida anyway.

Why the frick should anyone at A&M give two shits about what the rest of the conference's fans think about this decision?

It's an SEC message board, this isn't a frickin sewing circle.

So like I said, suspension when it's convenient.

Which is fine. Just don't act like that's not what's being done here.

Jenkins is our starting LB and one of our best players on D. Matthews isn't in the 2 deep.

If I were UF folks I would be giving Aggies crap about it as well. Of course I have little doubt that if any of you had the prospect of getting back your starting LB for your first ever SEC game you would probably justify it as well.

In the end, the dude didn't go to jail or get arrested. He just broke a team rule and has since made good over Fall Practice. If anything it is more surprising that Manziel didn't get a suspension considering he DID break the law.

Oh well, just getting SEC ready!

You shouldn't. But since you posted in the thread, it appears that you do.

I'm not faulting Sumlin for having no backbone. It's the SEC and he knows he needs every player.

Can someone link whether he said the suspensions were for the first game of the year?

It doesn't matter really either way but I'll give him credit for a bit of backbone if he didn't say first game.

Really stupid comparison. We just suspended the best playmaker in the conference for 1 year, the program is bigger than the player.

Your pos coach is worried about his job and the game's outcome

But since we don't know what they did, it is hard to say if even missing the La-Tech game is extreme or lenient. But not doing it against UF is more than convenient, it just makes good sense.

This is solid homer logic. Nicely done.

I have see it in print back in July when the suspension was made public saying "a game". I am sure later he said something different.

Lets say later he said "first game". Well obviously at that time he would have been talking about the LA-Tech game. I don't know that we could say 100% that he meant the first game as far as schedule or specifically the LA-Tech game since at that time it was the first game. He may have only wanted to suspend them from a OOC game (which just happened to be the first week if not for Isaac).

If you recall, in 2004 Florida's opener against Middle Tennessee State was postponed due to Hurricane Frances and then-Florida coach Ron Zook postponed former Gator Channing Crowder's suspension, which was scheduled to be served in the first game.

I may have overreacted with my earlier post, it appears we're in good company. Carry on.

Zook is a terrible example. He had zero backbone.

Um... Ron Zook is going to be a broadcaster for CBS...

so yeah... I guess you're saying Sumlin will be doing that soon too?

From back in June.

Sumlin sends pretty strong message to his A&M locker room with mid-summer, one-game suspensions of two likely starters on defense

Still sending a strong message?

I don't disagree. Just offering up an example with similar circumstances and outcomes between both schools.

lol at A&M fans trying to rationalize the move of the suspension.

They're fitting in nicely with the SEC
