ITT we learn how passionate reservoir dog is about the Golden Triangle cities being combined in the census.
I think the sense of scale is all out of whack down in Mississippi. Both Oxford and Starkville are in counties comprising around 50,000 people. That is really small.
By comparison, the county/micro areas of Russellville, Arkansas and Searcy, Arkansas (who nobody has ever heard of) are 85,000 and 80,000 in population, respectively.
Both also have colleges located in their main towns.
Mississippi is very rural and small town.

Ummm..wouldn't you prefer to live in an area with a level 1 trauma center? Level 1 is a hospital that takes in the most severe trauma cases, including medi-vac flights.

Arkansas is just as rural, but with less small towns. The Arky delta, and the Ozarks are as rural as anywhere in MS.
Mississippi is actually smaller in total land area than Arkansas, but has a slightly larger population.

I know. It just seems like Mississippi has a ton of towns in the 20,000-35,000 range.
Arkansas has areas which are very rural (like the mountain areas), and then clusters of metropolitan area.
Arkansas has a county with 400,000 people in it, while Benton County (Bentonville) would be the largest county in Mississippi. Washington County (Fayetteville) is almost as populated as Hinds County (Jackson). It probably will pass it next year or the next.

Interested to see what other area that are adding to Tuscaloosa? 240k seems to be quite an overestimate unless they are claiming Hoover which is 40 min down the road and only 10 minutes from Bham.

Over half of Hinds county is covered in woodlands. Hinds County population has been shrinking for close to 30 years, hence the mass exodus from Jackson. Madison ,Rankin and Desoto counties are growing rapidly, everywhere else is either losing residents, or experiencing annual flat growth.
NW Arkansas is definitely growing at a very rapid pace, and benefits from having several municipalities in a linear layout.

Are state fans arguing this many pages deep that three cities in three different counties should be counted in Starkville's "metro"?

Ole Miss people claim that a city in another state is in the Oxford metro

Look at the idiots who run Jackson. The crime rate is historically high. Hell yes people have fled that dump.

Jackson can't get out of its own way. Anybody that lives in central MS knows why.

I didn't want to say why because the PC crowd are so damn active these days. It's a sad thing, all I read now are the killings and bodies uncovered in fields etc. Did you see the piece about the truck driven into the greyhound bus station? See below lol.
According to JPD, a pick-up truck crashed through the front glass doors on the Mill Street side of the bus stop, and came out the other side of the building. The bus station was open and people were inside when this happened.
The suspects were driving a stolen S10 pick-up truck and tried to pull the ATM out with chains.
