both were great. But in my opinion that 2003 defense was better. They were just nasty

AU 2010 is my pick on offense.

Bama 1992 would be my pick on defense.

2011 Alabama is overall statistically the best defense in college football for the past 50 years.

You can argue about the rest, but they are easily #1 in defense.

92 Bama generated more turnovers and explosive plays (sacks and such) but 11 was more smothering. Seemingly almost every opponent possession was a 3 and out.

Auburn fans dramatically overestimate the 2010 offense just because that team went all the way.

You could make the argument 2013 Auburn offense was actually overall better than 2010.

1992 defense had to win so many close games playing all 4 quarters against everybody's 1st team. The 2011 had one really close game and failed vs LSU in OT. The 92 defense wins that game one way or another. 2011 offense was 10 times better than the 92.

1979 Alabama defense was stats better than 2011.

It is true that the 92 defense had to play with their backs to the wall more, they had to protect a lot of 7-10 point leads, knowing our offense was not high powered and likely wouldn't put up a lot.

Offenses have evolved SIGNIFICANTLY since just a few days ago. The three yards and a cloud of dust era is over. Teams throw like crazy, spread the field, run much more complicated and aggressive offenses. The rule book has been juiced to promote offense. Playing defense today is harder than it ever has been.

Completely ridiculous statement bordering on retarded.

While I agree, I don't think people realize how close LSU was to those numbers that year. Playing Oregon and West Virginia OOC that year hurt our numbers a bit. They were rose and orange bowl champs with high flying hurry up offenses.

If you look at the SEC opponents it's neck and neck.

Alabama was better yardage wise, LSU created more turnovers and points were pretty much a wash

------------bama D------------LSU D: pts/yds/TO
OM-------7-141-2-----------3-195-3
Ark-------14-226-2---------17-254-3
MSU-----7-131-0-----------6-193-2
AU-------14-140-2----------10-248-2
UF--------10-222-2---------11-213-2

So common opponents avg per game:
Bama-----------------------LSU
10.4-172-1.6-------9.4-220.6-2.4

Oh agreed, 2011 LSU was an all time great defense too, that will unfortunately not get the credit it deserves because it didn't take home the title.

2011 LSU's special teams was really their best unit though.

The nickel defense featured 5 first rounders and a second rounder. They played like it was a sin to give up a yard.

I conceded that. Just wanted to show that LSU was right there with Alabama defensively that year. 1a and 1b IMO. Different styles

Our overall numbers are skewed due to playing Oregon (5th in total O) and West Virginia (13th in total O) OOC. Both won BCS bowls

Alabama played 1 power 5 team OOC in Penn State (94th in total O)
